2 couples sharing a cab from jfk to 2 hotel locations in manhattan, is it still the flat rate of $45 or is it considered 2 separate fares?

I live in NYC and take cabs all the time.

According to the TLC website here is the rule:

If passengers request multiple stops, the flat rate of $45.00 will be collected at the first stop in Manhattan, and the meter will be turned on for the remainder of the trip. The metered fare should be collected at the last stop, from the last passenger.

Keep in mind, driving a NY cab is a difficult job. The cab drivers rent the cabs for about $100 a shift and then need to return the cab back to the shop with a full tank of gas. The drivers keep all the money they get. If the cab driver is nice and the cab is clean and he makes 2 stops, I would give him a very nice tip.

By the way...given the partition in the Crown Vics that the NY cabs use (mostly although some are now mini-vans) 4 people in a cab is tight.

Have a pleasant stay in NYC!

I'm not sure on this; you may have to ask someone affiliated with the city about the correct fare. I do believe, though, that it should be just the flat rate for both hotels, though the cabbie may charge a little more (say, the cost for the distance between hotel A and hotel B) and I wouldn't argue.

2 couples in the same cab? Still one flat rate. You can fit up to four people in a cab. The rate does not increase by the amount of people like it does in some other places.
