You can be super casual to very dressy. There are no rules and no one cares.

Whatever you feel comfortable wearing out to dinner....is fine for the theater.

Have fun in NYC!

For many people, going to a Broadway show is an Event.

I would suggest dressing a little up, maybe as far as the lower end of business casual, though it's not required unless you're, say, going on a date or spending the night with your lover.

Business casual is fine, although any kind of dress code has been thrown out the window. You wouldn't believe how some people show up at the theatre--and then how they behave once they're there. Most people do have the sense to dress neatly, though. A nice pair of pants, not jeans, and a simple top would be just fine.

A little more dressy than usual. Dressy if you're seeing something like Phantom and not as dressy to see Stomp or something.

Dressy is not required, but too many are becoming slobbish. It is embarrassing to see jeans and t-shirts at what used to be considered a fine night out. My wife and I always wear a suit and dress respectively.

It all depends on the show you go see. People tend to dress a little nicer for shows like the phantom and wicked, but not so much for shows like the producers and rent. We just got back and had a blast. ENJOY!

you do not have to wear something very dressy. many of the locals dress casually, or casual dressy.

Business casual is very acceptable. I wouldn't go in jeans and t-shirt. Some folks do dress up and make that part of their night.

its true. you can wear what you want. they are not going to throw you out unless youre obscene. BUT...unless you want to be tacky, leave the t-shirts, sneaks and shorts at home. put on some hip pants and casual shirt and viola. i would say ditch the jeans also but i confess ive gone in them so...i wont. also, is it just me or does it also depend on where you sit in the theater?
