My 'dream' car would be a 1963 Corvette, but needless to say, I'll keep dreaming. I have owned 5 cars in my life, all Pontiacs. Two Firebirds (76 & 81) and 3 GrandAms (89, 95 & a 99 which I am still driving). I racked up mega miles on each, well over 150G on each GrandAm except for my present one which is just broken in with 103G. They are solid reliable cars, and they have stopped making them. Go figure.

My dream car is the Eunos Cosmos - by Mazda. Out of production in late 1990's. Was only sold in Japan. Powered by the 20B Wankel (Rotary). The vehicle is the consummate dignified sports car - a rocket too.
The best to buy from? I'd say Daimler Chrysler - if you're in the US. At least they're an honest company. And you know they'll recall the vehicle for the slightest problem. The other guys will stiff you by making you pay for factory attributed faults. That's how they're making massive profits - very little spent on warranty repairs. Buy an American vehicle. P.S. I'm not an American and I work for a non-American auto maker.
Just remember to read your owners manual. Treat your car like the high cost item it is - wash it regularly, take it in for regular check-ups, tighten things every now and then, wipe and blow dust out of everywhere dust can enter, dust your feet before you enter the car - knock the grit and dirt off the soles, don't drop anything onto the floors - especially under the seats, make sure rear passengers don't grab on to the front head-rests when they exist the car - that causes serious damage to seat integrity (head-rests included), seat belts must be straightened out with your hands everytime you use them, seat covers must be wiped clean and dry everyday, front, side and back windows all cleaned daily, steering wheel regularly wiped, mirors - inside and outside always aligned properly and cleaned, lights tested everyday - all fuses checked at least once a week, cabin air regularly cleaned out - windows opened, wheels checked for cracks and nut tightness every week or two, fluids - steering, brake, coolent..., regularly checked and topped off - once per week, engine cleaned, wiped and tubes and pipes neatly in their correct places - a local technician can give a courtesy service check every second week, brakes tested everyday - do a running brake test as you leave the house in the morning - drive to about 30mph and quickly brake to about 15/20 mph - this will indicate braking integrity - if unsure visit a garage within the day.
But treat every drive like a NASA pre-launch inspection. Check under your car for obstacles - kids, cats..., turning lights, hazard lights, headlights, horn... all necessary for great driving. And guess what? Super Residual Value when you decide to part with the dear thing. You spend half your adult life in the car - treat her like the best friend she really is. Enjoy her companionship. Safe driving to you.

Dream car? a Shelby Cobra. Probably not in your price range (not in most people's price range).
Best car company? It would be safer to debate qualities of religions. Personally, I prefer GM. Honda and Toyota both produce quality cars too. Ford can be tolerated if need be. I personally avoid Chrysler/Dodge like the plague.
But beyond what's best, it works better to decide what you need, can afford and what you like before you worry about who made it.

For new cars - What do you want? A sports car? A sedan? A SUV/Truck?
I have a Toyota truck that I love, but I'm thinking about trading it in for an FJ Cruiser

Ford F350 Crew Cab Harley Davidson Edition, especially if I could get one without all the Harley insignia. Needs to have turbo-charged diesel engine, four by four, and not a dually. About $60,000.
