How do you achieve a wavy hairstyle?

I have straight hair that falls about 2 and a half inches below my shoulders, and I don't know how to make it wavy. Getting a perm isn't an option for me. How can I get nice waves without getting a perm?

depends on what you mean wavy. do you mean small kinky wavy or big curls wavy.... you can take a big curling iron which will take forever or try this..... go to the beauty store pic up spray in gel and some good hair spray. As soon as you get out of the shower towel dry your hair basically making it where it isnt soaking wet but is still well and put a bunch of spray in gel in your hair. take your hands and scrunch it together as best as you can all over your head, if it doesnt stay well scrunch and apply a hair clip or hair band to make the section stauy like that until it drys a little. after you get the hair as wavy as you want spray the hair spray in it for the great hold. after everything is really dry you can always take a shine product which is usually real greasy and add it in so your hair looks glisining and shiny

u can try a few things, one is a curling or waving iron there is a different a curling iron had just a barrel and will give u a nice curl to ur hair a waveing iron has the barrel its self and a litle wire wraped around it to give u more of a wave and not curled look. another thing u can do is sleep with hot rollers or sponge rollers in ur hair. just grab a roller and put a medium strand of hair in it wrap it up and secure with the pins it comes with or bobby pins. u can also try just using waveing gel or serum they sell pleanty of them at sephora.com just look for the hair care products! u can give ur self that wet look too if u take a little mousse gel and hairspray. run the mousse thru ur hair then scrunch ur hair with ur hands and a little gel. after that finish it off with hairspray and a lil more scrunchin for hold. good luck!

try using a curling iron to curl your hair. then when you are done, run your fingers through your hair to kinda undo the curls a little and then it will look wavy.
