of course the legal immigrant, no matter where they are from. The only problem with immigrants from Mexico is that most are illegals.

There is a problem with the question... One of the requirements to be a LEGAL citizen is that you learn English. Therefore, you can bet your sweet *** that people here who don't speak a lick (especially have been here for any amount of time) are here illegally. So my answer would be legal... and that means they must speak English at some adequate level before having been granted citizenship. Even legit green carders must be learning.

I will have to go with the legal from Mexico. They will have a very hard time if the chose not to learn English. Illegal is Illegal no matter where they come from. The legal showed his respect by conforming to our laws.

well...that's good and bad
if the illegal immigrant from the UK can speak English and hasn't done anything bad...then the UK person.....
but if the UK person has done something illegal...then the person from Mexico because they are legal and because you can learn Spanish in the process and i grantee they will learn some English and Como out to it some time

Everybody who lives in the U.S. (legal or illegal) should learn to speak English
And I'm pretty sure somebody from the UK would be able to speak English (just an observation)

Please stop confusing
the issue with the facts.
The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is
no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal
Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five children. He
takes a job for five or six dollars an hour. At that wage with six
dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year gets an
"earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free!!!. He qualifies for Section 8
housing and subsidized rent, food stamps, and free (no deductible, no
co-pay) health care. His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school,
and require bi-lingual teachers and books that taxpayers provide. He doesn't
have to worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins, and printed material.
He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued. He and his family receive the
equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits, while working Americans are
lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his, and
paying for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup.
Cheap labor? My a**!" An illegal is an illegal!
It's only cheap for Bush's corporate friends!

I would 'prefer' neither. Good Lord! I don't care how ppl talk to other ppl who know their language but for the love of god do not expect me to know what the hell you are saying. I have two true stories for you...
True story # 1: My grandparents came over from Italy and instead of expecting people to just understand them they learned English...they believed it was so important that they didnt even teach my mother Italian. It is beyond culture...language is about communication. What good is your culture if you cannot communicate it to other cultures!
True story # 2: In my home town news paper about a week ago a hispanic male who was born and raised here and is bilingual...knowing both english and spanish...walked into the local government building and made a big stink because he (and I shi* you not...he was quoted) "felt like speaking spanish and I couldent...I pay taxes I should be able to walk into a local government building and speak spanish." HA!! Who the hell does he think he is! I pay taxes too...if I work at that 'local government office' and I speak only english than don't come to me expecting a person who speaks fluent spanish. Not to mention the fact that if this said government building was to hire extra interpreters for irresponsible ppl I would be paying through higher taxes! Me...pay...who's grandparents came here and got their heads out of their butts and learned English!!!
I would also like to add that when I say irresponsible I mean immigrants (any immigrants) who come here and take advantage of our system and continue to be ignorant and not learn our language. Local government office buildings hire a quota of bilingual speaking individuals to handle a certain amount of "newly arrived" individuals who have not had time to aclimate to our society. They do not hire one for every single office so that every one can come in and speak whatever they want.
And this is besides the UK...cause what the hell is that all about?

Your question makes no sense! An illegal immigrant from the UK has no other choice.. he or she would already know English.

How's that for a leading question? Neither. I don't want illegals here of any kind; we must protect our borders at all costs to ensure the integrity of our broken immigration system. We must fix it. We also must make sure immigrants who come here learn the language of success: English.

I can't help but to see that some of these comments are purely racist. And FYI, most immigrants from Mexico come here legally. Please know your facts people. Stop making ignorant comments. And by the way, most Mexican immigrants speak English. But you probably wouldn't know that.
