I would wait until he says something to you. He may think that you are trying to have him forget about the one that just passed away.

Let him mourn the first dog. Don't just thrust another dog on him. Wait until he's over the first and ready to accept another dog, not as a consolation but as an individual dog who will be his new companion.

when i was under 10 that always worked for me. actually come to think of it when if was 13 i just got a puppy and it died a few weeks later so my mom bought me a chihuahua. I'm 25 now and still have the little girl.

Wait and see what he does. He may not feel he is ready for a dog right now, since he may fear another loss. And he is still mourning.

Wait until he has finished greiving, otherwise another dog will sense that and could possibly react in a negative manner.

i would wait, let him get over this dog first, wait till he ask for another pet, he might want something else and not a dog this time

depend on how long he had the dog if he had the dog along time i would wait and if he had the dog for a short period of time then i would get him another dog

wait until he asks for one, especially if he was very close to it, he'll know best when hes ready but to push it too soon can be just as painful as loosing someone and expecting them to go on a date the next day

I would wait a little bit until he has had a chance to grieve his loss. Let him remember his little friend, then maybe for Christmas, or first report card get him a puppy.

wait till he asks or go for a longer living pet like a turtle that can live 50-100 years.
