Okay I am not a sunday school teacher, nor a teacher of some kind, however I've always wanted to be a teacher. Here is what think that can teach children and have fun at the same time.

First teach them about the colors: for the coat of many colors: you give them a piece of paper and hand out one crayon or one colored pencil to each students. Then you tell them to make a coat with stripes. It is their job to color those stripes one by one and on the sides tell them to write and spell the colors.

Then you teach them about jealousy and why it is bad: Tell them the story of Joseph and how the story climax due to his brother's jealousy. Give examples why it's bad, and why it can lead to danger in the long run.

Lastly if there is still time teach them about kindness: Obviously, there was a happy ending to this story as they all were not punish due to Josephs' kindness. Teach them that kindness can lead through great things and one of them is VICTORY.

It might be too deep for those children but if you could make a parallel of how Joseph typed Jesus...

Joseph wearing a coat of 7 colors.
Jesus on the throne with a rainbow around Him.

Joseph rejected by his brothers and Jesus was too...

Joseph saved the world of famine and Jesus saved it too.

Joseph finally met "little Benjamin and Jesus returns too , for that last remnant tribe...

Maybe little cut-outs that they can glue with glue-sticks
showing both Joseph and Jesus side by side and how similar their lives were.

Games, crafts and songs interspersed with stories for the littlest ones. Make them coordinate. For instance, if you are doing Adam and Eve, make a tree of life, or a tree of wisdom craft. Find a game and a song that fit with the story, if possible. Make things meaningful. for the older kids, fewer songs and games, but use some. Make things more mature. Discuss things on a more mature level. Crafts should be more complicated and challenging. evolution! With 3 year olds! He's funny! You could try to make things a bit more rational for the older kids, but that younger group...you need to keep things simple for them. Unless you wind up with a group like mine last year...first day, they asked me what Islam was (honest! Okay, he was six) but my little group of 5 - 7 year olds understood a quite high level discussion of the three major monotheistic religions. (yes, I talk to them using words like that, and yes, they got it! They are an exceptionally bright group.) Try to keep things light and fun. Use catalogs to get craft ideas. Talk to previous teachers and your co-teachers about appropriate songs and games. Make them work with the stories/discussions, and split things up so you aren't lecturing too much.

Here's a good idea, stop deceiving children... it's cruel.
