stay out of his way. Don't give him a reason to yell at you. Make sure all your chores are done. Ignore him. Then when he is in a better mood, ask him why he does that to you? And tell him how it makes you feel for him to come home and yell at you for no reason. Also, tell him not to take out his bad day on you. You don't do that to him.

Write him a letter using a format like this:
Dear Dad,
WHEN YOU yell at me when I didn't do anything wrong,
I FEEL bad. It hurts my feelings. yadda yadda
If you put your feelings into the When you... I feel format, there is no finger pointing. Just you stating your feelings.
Good Luck!

Be very thankful that your dad comes home.
What if he never came home? what if he left and sends you a card for your birthday and it arrives late.
He isn't mean, he works and supports you. He lives with you.
That's not mean.
what if you had to live with your grandparents because your parents didn't want you?
If my daddy was here he could scream at me all he want to.

Talk to him later on, when he has calmed down and let him know how you feel.
