I went today and he wrote in my chart without telling me what it was. He just said I need to be on medication for it.

I've found that you need to be your own avocate. Whenever the nurse or doctor does that to me, I ALWAYS ask what the reading was.

Also, if the doctor is telling you that you need to be on medication for your blood pressure, you should DEFINITELY ask what your reading was. You shouldn't be put on meds after one high reading (unless its REALLY high). Sometimes people get "white-coat symdrome" where their BP goes up just from being nervous about going to the Dr. Also, there are things you can try before resorting to meds such as diet and/or exercise. Meds should be the last resort.

Anyway, always ASK them what your reading is.

Good Luck on getting the pressure down

Usually they are suppost to talk to you about all the discoveries that deal with your health. Be careful too blood pressure can be tricky... If you just walk into the doc. office your blood pressure will automaticly be high. Always wait 15 miniutes after you arrive before you believe there readings. Try taking your blood pressure at home as well. Remember if you smoke the chance of getting a higher reading will double. Be calm don't talk uncross your legs and hold your arm at heart level. The best thing to do is to ask. You have a right to anything pertaining to yourself. They were just out of practice.

That is very unusual. You should call the office back and find out what it is. It is important to measure your blood pressure regularly, since it can lead to strokes and other heart/circulatory conditions. "Regular" blood pressure is 120/80 or lower. If you are close to this range, or have more problems with your doctor, it might be time to find a new one. Good luck and be healthy!

Exercise is the only real way to permanently lower your blood pressure.

That's terrible. He works for you. Next time tell him he is fired if he does not tell you. Blood pressure medicine are the biggest selling drugs. Some can drop it with with diet and exercise. Some can drop it with a supplement like noni, mangosteen etc.

According to Dr Fuhrman MD everyone can drop it below the max. with fasting since it takes the placque off the arteries. Maintain it with diet change. The meds do not lower chance of heart attacks. Some increase them. The majority with it get heart attacks not strokes. He has been using fasting for main treatment of health poblems for over 3 decades.

See this site on fasting with quotes by 11 MDs. Also at bottom it has link to his book that tells all about it. This book has references to lots and lots of research studies. 50% of Americans over 65 has HBP. Don't you get side effects?

B/c they're a shitty doctor. My nurses almost always tell me right after they take it. If they don't b/c they forget, I ask them. If your BP isn't above 130/80, you don't need to be on meds.

Did you ask him? They may not volunteer the information, but I've never had one refuse to answer the question. The patient should want to know, right?

Ask them and they will tell you, and if you don't understand ask the Dr. to explain. It is a good idea to be informed about your own health.
