I have 2 4/12 month old rottweilers, me and the dogs got home from obdience class and i decided to take them on a walk. Today i decided to go to a diffrent route, to walk, the one a i usally take is a bit short. So today i was walking the boys, when we saw a stray pit mix up ahead. The stray was like 11 feet away and started barking at me and my dogs, my dogs instantly went into kill mode. I was at the time off leash walking them, so i put them in sit and put on there leash but when i was putting on the first leash the stray dog started to run towards us, instead of trying to out run that dog in which i know we couldnt, cause that dog was to close, instead of putting the leash on the dog, i told my dogs " get him" i use this command when i'm messing around with my dad and i tell the dogs to tackle him, but in this situation my dogs started running forward to the stray both my dogs biting it in the face while the stray bit my doh in the chest. I called my 2 my pups and the stray ran.

I agree with wizardlizards. As a former rottweiler owner it makes me sick to see people attribute value to aggressiveness and put their animals in harms way. First of all, you had no business with the dogs off the leash at any time. Secondly, you should have turned around and walked the other way. A well trained dog has the capacity to walk away from aggressive dogs. You put your puppies at risk for injury or infection. Rottweilers are extremely smart dogs. Unless you are a professionally trained handler, you should not be playing with attack commands.

The dogs should not have been off leash. I am sure there are leash laws where you live. If the dogs had been on a leash, you could have kept them in control of the situation. Personally I do not think it was right for you to tell your dogs to attack. The other dog may have just been wanting to make friends.

not really right, but not wrong either. The dog could have hurt you, and your dogs were just protecting you. but if the owner of the pit or anyone that knows that owner saw what happened, they can turn you in for not having a leash on your pups. They can say that your dogs attacked first (even if they didn't) and you could get into alot of trouble. I know I would have done the same thing myself. I hope everything goes okay for you... Good Luck

Are you crazy?! You just taught your dogs that it is acceptable to attack another animal. You are lucky the dog is still alive, and better hope that the owner doesn't come after you, legally or otherwise.
It is also illegal to let dogs run loose (that means without a leash).
You are totally liable for everything that happened, both morally and legally.
I don't mean to sound like I am attacking you, but whoa, you really need to think of the consequences of your actions, before you make them.
I hope the dogs are all ok.

I think that was really stupid, I would never tell my dogs to "get him". This just shows what an immature handler you are. Not only that, but you didn't have your dogs on the leash! If you would have had them on the leash, the whole thing could have been avoided.

No offense but that was rather stupid for putting your dogs at risk of getting rabies or somthing else. You need to take them to get checked. Seriously... how do you know that stray was a stray 1st of all, 2nd, how do you know it was coming to attack you or your dogs...

Seems to me you just thought it would be cool to let them fight.

You shouldn't have dogs.

4 1/2 month old pups don't HAVE a "kill mode"
