avoid feather and down mixtures, these are about 3 times heavier than pure down. also buy the right thickness for your area, for these duvets can easily be too warm for you. with central heating no more than a 10,5 TOG duvet if you are sleeping with somebody, if you are on your own go for 13.5 TOG. You could also consider the 4seasons combo wich consists of a thin summer and a thicker autumn duvet which clip together in midwinter. Go for goosedown, it has a longer lifespan than duckdown and it also wont have funny smells like duckdown sometimes has. Its also washable with a soft woolen soap unlike duckdown and superdown. Avoid superdown altogether, it's chopped up feather and has limited lifespan too. I know a good South African company to buy from, www.makoti.co.za, otherwise shop around im sure youll find it in your country as well. one last thing, if you're prone to dustmite allergies be carefull. most companies process their down these days to rid it of dustmite but be sure to ask how thorough their processes are and what their guarantees are in this regard. ENJOY, THEY ARE THE BEST!!!
