I nearly hit 2 kittens this morning on my way to the gas station. They were fine so I went on to get gas. When I came back both kittens were in the same area where I had seen them earlier. I felt bad and tried to catch them both to bring them home. One ran off but I was able to get one. They were strays. Okay, the kittenlooks about 5-6 weeks old. I bought her some cat food and she's had 2 cans today. My problem is she hasn't went to the bathroom. Is there some special kind of cat food I should have gotten her? My fiance thinks she isn't using the bathroom because this is probably the first time she's eaten in a few days. What else could be wrong with her?

She does have a litterbox. I've put her in it every other hour just so she knows exactly where it is.

Purina Kitten chow is an excellent starter food. If the kitten has difficulty chewing it I have just put a small amount in a shallow dish and added a little water to it to soften it up. Put the kitten in front of the food or offer her a piece from your finger until she is eating it. The kitten may not have been totally weaned yet . Make sure you put fresh water out for her too.
Be patient. As your fiance said, she may not have eaten for awhile. I am sure mother nature will call when she has had some food and she will go to the bathroom. If you are going to keep her an appointment with a vet to be checked would be good so she could get wormed and have her shots. Good luck with her. Our best cats have been ones that we have rescued in similar situations. Your kittens eyes should be bright and clear, no drippy nose, and hopefully her coat has a healthy sheen. Sometimes these are indicators of disorders or illness. Good luck with your kitten!

Don't worry too much about the kitty going to the bathroom just yet... they can hold it for a long time. Make sure that you are feeding her kitten food. It will say on the label "cat food" "kitten food" or "for cats and kittens." If it is dry food, wet it with some water (milk will cause diarrhea) but change it frequently cause wetness grows bacteria. If the kitten is only 5 or 6 weeks, it may not even be completely weened. You can buy milk replacement formula and a bottle for kittens right at walmart or any pet store. If the kitten doesn't go to the bathroom by tomorrow, call a vet.

Your fiance could be right. Of course, you didn't say if you had a litter box or not. If you do, does the kitten know where it is...this is very important. If your kitten hasn't gotten to the bathroom within a day or two (no more than 48 hours) then I would take her to the vet. Just make sure that you keep plenty of food and water available.

Don't worry, the kitten will go sooner or later. Cats (and kittens) will hold it in when they're scared or nervous.
I wouldn't give her wet food though, especially if it hasn't eaten in a while. Kittens get the runs real easily. You might want to go to the store and get some dry kitten food instead.
I hope the other kitten will be ok.

If the kitten is a stray it probably means that the mother has abandoned them. If this is the case try rubbing a warm cloth over the genitals and butt. I've heard that the mother usually does this with her tongue to give the kittens sensations and then thy'll know when to use the restroom. Basically they have to be taught to use the bathroom.

The kitten may or may not be as old as you think, and needs stimulation. Whatever the age I would try stimulating him to pee (Get a wet rag and gently massage which ever area you choose), and if that doesn't work (which if he is 5-6 weeks shouldn't work) he may need to go to the vet. He may not have eaten so you could try seeing by tomorrow.

try putting her on bread and warm milk for the next few days. If that don't help loosen her up you may have to call a vet and see what they say. It is possible that she just doesn't have anything else in her system to get rid of but too rich of a food could cause constipation or diarrhea if she isn't used to it.

Momma cats stimulate kittens to go to the bathroom by licking them. As humans, we can use a warm cloth.
