Reason #1--they're young, and I'm not talking about age. (You can be immature at any age.)
Boys are looking to be entertained, which, I guess, is an indirect way of saying they're in it for no one but themselves.
Growing up means becoming interested in a partnership with a women. That never gets old because there's always some new challenge.

Umm I am not one of them but I have a friend that is like that. He will say the most wonderful things about a girl and be interested for two or three weeks maybe even longer. Then all of a sudden he gets bored with her and moves on...from watching him and listening to him I have noticed he doesn't do well with routine.
What happens is its no longer a challenge. He wants something new, a new challenge, uncharted territory. I think its a crock of $#it but every guy is different.

same reason we get tired of guys... it's just our primitive sexual instincts that keep us looking… but, we must remember a relationship takes two and both people have to commit to continually bringing something new and interesting to the table or else it will become boring. The most important things you can do to keep your relationship growing are 1) have your own life - friends, hobbies, etc. that enriches you and makes you an interesting person - you need to be able to teach your significant other things they don’t know and if you do all the same things, that’s not possible 2) don’t spend too much time together. It helps to keep things fresh and healthy when you don’t spend every day together, but plan special “quality dates”.

maybe the relationship just becomes a routine and some guys have a short attention span and get bored...

All they want to do is chase and catch, not keep. Just racking up phone numbers and keeping score.
