I wouldn't put it in exactly your words, but, yes.
Criticizing someone's use of language is actually a disguised way to criticize that person. In other words, many comments about how people don't use language properly are actually a back-door way to express racism, sexism, ageism or some other kind of prejudice towards that person. It really bothers me to read so much of that on this forum.

No and your Question shows what an arrogant inflexible snob you are.
"all these arrogant inflexible snobs whining about bad grammar? "
your use of 'all' overgeneralizes and misses the mark.
Where do you come from? assuming ''all' comments about bad grammar are from ''arrogant inflexible snobs ".... Are you perfect?
could it be the poster is just frustrated with the sea of questions they have just surfed thru and is just asking innocently? Why do you criticize other people and project motives onto them that may be wrong??
in an ideal world all would use spell check but Cei' la Vis
some questions are so badly formed the poster needs to sleep it off because he's too drunk to make any sense.
I think it will all work out... some categories lend themselves to junk questions better than others and you can always click home and start anew...what I am sick and tired of are the the questions that are ALL ATTITUDE and not a real question. Where they expound on their extremist views and flirt with the Report police because the scree they puke onscreen is abusive and deliberately mean.

I agree to a certain extent. Punctuation and spelling that's slightly off and posts where it's obvious that the poster isn't from an English speaking country should be given slack- I agree. Posts where every other word (or more) has been abbreviated almost to the point of being unrecognizable are another thing entirely. Posts from people where they're asking questions as though they're right and everyone else is wrong, and have misspelled words in there I will also correct. There is a Spell Check button.

Maybe so. It's a credibility thing with me though. If you can't even come close to the correct usage or spelling, why should I take you seriously?
I've seen some questions/answers that were so incoherent that it wasn't clear what the question/answer even was.
I accept imperfections and don't really expect too much. Heck, I make more mistakes than most people probably. But at least I try to use decent grammar so others can comprehend what it is I am trying to convey.
As far as slang and shorthand go, it's all good.

I generally don't give foreigners a hard time about grammar and spelling.
My opinion of younger people is that if they're old enough to come to a website aimed at adults, they should be mature enough to pay attention in school in their English and Grammar classes.
When I see this abbreviated garbage (i.e. how r u 2day?), it makes me sick. This isn't cool, it isn't proper, it's not funny, and most of all, it's difficult to read. How can I be expected to answer a question if I can barely read it? At least most foreigners TRY to get their point across without being lazy and abbreviating a three-letter word to a two-letter word. (What the hell is up with that...it's only one letter, lol!)

No,it is never too soon for young people to learn proper grammar and spelling skills. This is taught beginning in Kindergarten these days. There is nothing snobbish about expecting the best out of everyone. There is nothing good about being ignorant, nothing good about not taking advantage of the education that is available. As to those just learning English, they are excusable, because they ARE trying to learn a new language.Their grammatical errors are quite different compared to an English-speaker's poor grammatic skills.
I'm quite sick and tired of the lazy slackers who do not seem to recognize that the way they speak, write and spell identifies them;poor communication skills will only hold them back...poor grammar and writing skills will mean low- paying jobs.

As far as young posters and "foreigners" go, I have absolutely no problem answering posts with grammatical errors. After all, either English isn't their first language, or they are to young to know any better. However, I do have a problem with people making racial, sexual, derogatory or hateful statements for no other reason than to get attention. In that case, they deserve to have their lack of education made fun of.

yes and no. the foreigners obviously should get a break if english is not their first language, hey they're trying and that's fine with me. there is absolutely no point in badgering them.
but the 14 year old brats on here that want to fight about nothing in particular should be called out. if you are old enough to be on the internet, you are old enough to know how to spell and write sentences with correct (or close to) grammar and syntax. unsupervised pre-teens needn't fill up this forum with their pathetic excuses for words. perhaps i am biased because i take great pride in my education that i put intense effort and heart into.
just my 2 cents.
cheers!

No, why do not we %. it to the bone, go away no speck of flesh and blood untouched, and then we may be able to sit down down there counting on the parched white bones and marvel at what civilized people we are. enable's go properly on tearing one yet another aside and be conscious basically how some distance we may be able to take it in saying hateful cruel issues to at least one yet another. we are placing this kind of high-quality party to the kids who can't vote yet because they're only so damned immature.

No. I, for one, am not.
For I am one of them...; )
If there are young people or foreigners then that's one thing, but there's a difference between not knowing a language and being blatantly ignorant.
