I cook everything - rarely even make my kids hot dogs. They're actually a lot healthier this way. I grill meats, and have rice and vegetables, applesauce that they sprinkle their own cinnamon on for dessert.
My kids are older (except for the unborn) = ranging in ages from 4-13. Twice a month, we do a make your own pizza. I buy those personal size pizza from Boboli, and the kids put their own sauce on, cheese, meats, whatever - and we put them in a pizza oven. That oven was the best gift we ever got! Works great in the summer too, don't have a hot stove that heats up the house.
I don't like to buy a lot of tv dinners and things like that. More pricey than just making the food anyways. If you grill alot in the summer, most dinners take about 30 minutes or less to make anyways. In the winter we use a stovetop grill. And, the less garbage my kids eat, the less sugar highs & lows that they get too.

My kids are the same way - 4 yrs and 8 yrs. I used to ask my Father what's for dinner and his answer was always "whatever I put in front of your face". Not the nicest answer, but true in it's nature. You are in control. Start finding things that you want to cook that will incorporate things they already like. If they like mac and cheese and spaghettio's then make a dish that has noodles but is not the same ol same ol...like fettuccini (sp?) alfredo, there's things from Lipton where you can do it easily and give that to them. Keep track of what they like and what they don't like. The only way you're going to get out of the routine is trying new things. Start with simple changes, don't go and make goulash or anything, start simple and move on from there.

This is a big hit with my 4 1/2 year old daughter
Sea Monster Noodles
4 hot dogs
4 pkgs chicken flavored Ramen noodles
A few drops of blue food coloring (optional)
Mustard
Take each hot dog and slice it into quarters but only about a little less than half way up length-wise. Boil the hotdogs and the “legs” will curl. Cook noodles according to directions and drain. Add a few drops of the food coloring and stir well. Place the noodles on a plate. Sit the hotdog so it stands up on the “sea”. Add eyes and mouth with mustard to the hot dog. Kids will eat this up!
Getting kids to eat veggies is sometimes difficult but not if you get silly with your food. Kids love fantasy games and will enjoy thinking up other names to call vegetables and won’t remember they don’t like veggies.
Canned corn is skeleton teeth.
Broccoli are little trees.
Mashed potatoes are clouds.
Peas are little bowling balls.
Add a ranch dressing for a dip for raw carrots, celery and broccoli.
Ants on a log. Celery stalks with peanut butter and raisins.

Right now my daughter is eating top ramen. Sometimes I throw an egg or extra veggies in it. She loves it. I like to leave the packaged powder out and use soy sauce instead , the powder has the bad MSG in it, but I do not always. It has been so hot I make fresh fruit and yougurt smoothies for lunch, the kids like when I add nesquick strawberry powder to the smoothies to make them sweeter. Eggs with cheese almost never is boring to them.
I like to cook but my kids are small and it is difficult to cook such tiny quantities. They tire of foods from day to day, so left overs never go over well. I bake more than cook these days.

Oh, I cook about three, four times a week, for my kids...Unless they want pizza, or we have company.....But, I cook well balanced meals, like my mother use to do for us..... Like Parmesan chicken, on a stick, with mixed vegeez, and mashed potatoes....Or, I'll make homemade mac & cheese, with real cheddar cheese and real noodles....always with applesauce, or stuffing or broccoli, sides.. We'll have spaghetti, with garlic bread, & salad, on the side... Or, pork chops with vegeez & baked potatoes... Chili dogs, with vegeez & chips, for nights when I dont want to cook, big meals... Or I buy those quick burritos, and just make, them vegeez, with french fries, baked right out of the oven.... Not all people can afford to eat out all the time.. And even though we can afford too....I am too cheap to spend that kind of money on eating out,all the time, when I have an oven, and love cooking for my family & friends !!! My reward is when they say: "Can we have seconds?"

Spegettii with premade sauce, about half the time I'll brown some hamburger and mix that in.
chicken with canned or frozen vegis, mashed potatoes.
good ole mac and cheese or some variation of that.
hot dogs, corn dogs, hamburgers with homebaked frenchfries or corn on the cob.
Homemade cheese quesadillas or grilled cheese sandwiches.
or sometimes its just a bag of edemames(fresh cooked soy beans), chunks of cheeses, crackers and fruit.
so yeah... i cook lots.

Chantrella,
How old are they? My kids used to eat that stuff when they were younger as well. I think it depends on the person wether or not they even like to cook! I personally love to cook, It gives me a since of being somehow. What I used to do, depending on how old they are, is slip them something new and exciting occassionally see what happens!

I cook every other night, my son's a teenager and can fix his own dinner when I'm not cooking.
Also its so hot out and I don't have AC there are days we eat salads and sandwiches, no cooking required.
