I work with today's youth and I think it is because that today's youth isn't as innoccent as benji and lassie. If it doesn't have action or something going on pretty much the whole show then their attention goes elsewhere. Their attention spans are much much shorter now a days. They don't care about story and caring for the characthers they need flashes and noise. But, I did find a kids show on PBS that has a cartoon dog for a host. I like it. So maybe one day they will bring back a dog hero.

They made a new Benji. But for Lassie all I've got to say is ????? Oh and maybe because now ppl like football playing dogs like Air Bud or some other junk

I think it is because sex and violence are what sells movies these days. I for one would love to see a return to the good old fashioned family movies, and Lassie is my all time favorite. When I was a kid I had a collie just like Lassie. She was beautiful.

you're right; those Lassie & Benji movies were pretty great. People these days think dog heroes are hokey.

I hear ya. With so many of us dog lovers and all the advertisements these days, you would think they would have more "Dog Heros".

Am I showing my age if I bring up Rin Tin Tin...Or you don't have a clue of who I'm talking about. (he was a German Sheperd "hero" in the 60's & 70's - way before Lassie)
