Dogs bark at people when they walk by the house because they think they can chase them away.yea, it sounds silly, but barking things away makes them pround of themselves. Same reason for why dogs bark at mailmen. Schnauzer means "protection dogs" in German; they have excellent hunting and protection sense. Here are two solutions. one, put blinds up and not let him see people outside. two, get one or several of your friends(people who are strangers to him) to stand in front of the window. when he barks, tell your friends not to walk away. After a while, your dog will understand him barking has nothing to do with people walking away.

This is pretty natural for a dog. I know it bothers you, but he is really doing you a good service, as this will let you know when someone is coming up to the house, plus if someone scoping out houses to rob will remember that you have a dog that barks a lot and won't bother with your house.

i have a dog that barks if a leaf falls from the tree, it is a problem but mostly the dog is just defending his territory. you could close the shades so he can't see outside, that seemed to help with my dog. we also got a bark collar at the pet store for when he goes outside so he doesn't bother the neighbors.
its funny though when we walk him, he never barks at anyone. and when we all sit on the porch he's quiet also. i think he's a goof-ball.

I have a miniature Dachshund and she barks at strangers that pass within her sight of my house.Patients is a virtue and you can train your dog the same way I did mine.Every time she barked,I called her name, when she looked at me,I put my index finger to my mouth and in a very loud whisper said Shhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's the same way you get a child to be quiet and it takes repetitive attempts.I do not allow her to continue barking nor do I want her to completely quit, because what your dog is doing is alerting you of someone that he/she doesn't know.Your dog is protecting you.

A little superglue on the lips might help. Otherwise, he is just protecting his territory. You can yell at him to hush, and then approach him to make him stop barking and tell him no. Do this until he learns what you mean.

Yep, dogs do that you know.
Maybe he feels he has to protect his territory and his family.
My dog is a Border Collie and she barks at shadows for goodness sake!

Get a spray bottle and spray his face everytime he does this, and tell him NO and he should stop doing this, our friends had a problem with their dog doing that and he stopped doing that.
