It's just a way of trying to not make a little kid cry when Fundamentalists say, "You must accept the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart in order to be reborn and then goto heaven" The child invariablly asks the question about babies and that is the response.

So, if you believe that you must take the Lord into your heart to be reborn, because we are all born baring sin, then you must also believe that babies go straight to Hell when they die. But who's going to tell a little kid that? Especially if they want to make God out to be some benevolent all knowing creature. Instead of the vengefull and spitefull God from the Old Testemant.

Otherwise, you have to ask, at what age do you lose the free pass?

This is just another logical inconsistency that is covered up and glossed over by Fundamental Christians with cute little stories.

Hello friend,
You asked for some verses. What an excellent request!
May I first say that the death of any child is a horrible loss to the parents and is never to be taken lightly. Folks would do well to consider that it is possible that one such parent may stumble on this forum looking for answers.
That being said, I'd like to say that humans, (babies thru adults) are sinners according to God's Book. See Psalm 51:5 and Romans 3:23.
I know many folks will disagree about the sin nature part, but that's ok, they have a right to be wrong.
What the Bible says is this, we are all sinners and sinners need a Savior. Thank God for Jesus! (you know about John 3:16)
But with regard to the death of an infant, there is a very sad, yet interesting and instructive account of such a death you can read about in 2 Samuel 12. The specific verses are from about 13-23.
But I strongly urge everyone to read the whole chapter, it'll do you good.
Last of all, may I tenderly say, go ahead and doubt your
religion, but don't doubt your faith. Religion is worthless but faith comes from God, He won't let you down. Check out Ro.10:17 and Ps. 118:6.
Blessings,
2 Tim 2:7

Do you really think an innocent baby would go to hell? I don't. I do however think that many things in the Bible were misinterpreted, mis-translated, and since it is such an old book we have no idea if things were added to it or taken from it before we ever got a copy of it. I don't think God was trying to say babies would go to hell, I think the Bible was trying to get people to understand that they need to regret their sins and mistakes before having a child, so that child can be brought up right. Also if the parents are sinners, they do bring a child into a sinful life style. Poor kid. Plus we all carry the sins of Adam and Eve, we aren't in the garden of Eden anymore, now are we?

What you have to realize, you can't go around believing every word the bible says and everything you hear in church. Religion, regardless of which you follow, is what you make it to be. It's not a group concept, it's an individual and spirtual concept that only you can realize. If you want to believe that praying every day will get you to heaven, then that's your religion. I believe that being good to people and lending a helping hand, even if it takes some of my time, is much better than praying. If you've done nothing wrong because you did not have the chance to live, I believe that you're sin free. Don't let the church, the bible, the couran, the old testament, or bouda tell you what to believe. The church can be cruel, and it's like a governing body. Power corrupts...

That's why I am agnostic. So what the bible says is everyone is born bad? If the child is born with the sins of the parents, do the parents still have their sins? So god said, "Because Adam and Eve disobeyed me, all 6 billion of you now are sinners at birth." But, if you repent your 80 year life of sin on your death bed, all is forgiven and you go to heaven? If "God" works that way, I don't care to know him.

Added:
For all that think: "Some that die early it is because God can not stand to not have them before him, he loves them that much." Don't you wish that god loved you as much as that and kill you?

The Bible teaches that the dead “are conscious of nothing at all.” They are not alive and have no conscious existence anywhere. The account of Lazarus confirms this. Upon returning to life, did Lazarus thrill people with descriptions of heaven? Or did he terrify them with horrible tales about a burning hell? No. The Bible contains no such words from Lazarus. During the four days that he was dead, he had been “conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) Lazarus had simply been sleeping in death.—John 11:11.

Jesus said that “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus’] voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29) Similarly, Revelation 20:13 says: “The sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them.” “Hades” refers to the common grave of mankind. This collective grave will be emptied. All those billions who rest there will live again. The apostle Paul said: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15)

This resurrection would also include babies.

Romans 10:9 says that --that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him the dead, thou shalt be saved!
This is just one verse but it speaks to your question very clearly!
How can a baby confess with his mouth and believe in his heart?
He simply cannot ! That is the reason, even though this baby is born into sin, he will enter heaven if he dies as a baby! There is also an age of accountability that says that when a child reaches a certain age he is responsible to accept Jesus! Many theologians have debated when this age is but my guess would be when the child can recognize the difference between right and wrong!

I hardly doubt, a innocent baby, or young child, would even know what sin is...And I dont know what bible your reading from..But, my bible, and the God, I know, would never hold the parents sins, against a baby, or young child or anyone, for that matter.. Your baby is in "Heaven", being loved by all sorts of angels, I promise you this......Babies, are without sin.. Jesus probably has this baby in His loving arms, right now... God is a loving God, and Christians, believe that until, a child is old enough to understand right from wrong, they should not get "Babtised", they dedicate their babies to God, and the whole congragation prays in agreement for that babies, life....Then, when a child is of the ages, to where they know right from wrong, then they, get merged in water-babtism, just like Jesus said, for us to do...Not sprinkled, like the Catholic church does, when the baby doesn't even know he's alive...........Just know in your heart your baby, or the baby, is in Heaven...Surrounded by nothing but Utter Bliss & Loving angels!!!

Well, theres a few ideas on this.

One, is that those who die without hearing the Word of God would be judged only by works. Since a baby has no works to speak against it, it would be heaven bound.

Another is that any child who dies before they are old enough to accept, they would also be let into heaven for the same reason.

The trouble comes with willfully rejecting Christ, and children and babies cant do that, so they should be okay.

“Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me” (2 Samuel12:23). David knew that he would see his child in heaven one day. From that statement, we can assume that babies and young children were, by God's grace, covered for salvation by Christ’s death.

I honestly don't think the bible ever addressed this. The idea created such controversy, though, that later the church attempted to resolve the issue via the invention of limbo, a place where unbaptized babies went after death.

This of course also brings to mind, who is an innocent baby? A child of 3, a child of 6, a child of 16? Is innocence of age in one culture the same as innocence in a different one?
