I have rheumatoid arthritis which usually doesn't cause poor posture, though I suppose it's possible. Pain in the back joints is probably more due to ankylosing spondilitis (another type of arthritis). However, I also have some kyphosis (curving of the spine) that can make it harder to sit up straight. It's not embarassing so much as frustrating & tiring. Sometimes people think you are shy and withdrawn because you don't stand as straight & confident. Otherwise, it's fine.
