Whenever we give the dog (shes a golden retriever) a rawhide, chewy, anything of that nature, she'll pick it up, usually whine or whimper, and then try to give it back or put it in a corner. Has anyone ever experienced a dog whimpering b/c of a chew toy?
We ruled out the possibility of an aching tooth, the vet said her teeth are fine and she loves chewing ice all the time.

Maybe shes telling you that she wants to go outside and play fetch. Or she is frustrated that she cant find a good place to Barry it.

I had one dog that would get so excited about rawhide he would cry the ENTIRE TIME he was eating. But he actually chewed it. My other dog takes his bones and searches the house for the perfect hiding spot (which usually ends up being somewhere out in the middle of the floor, but he thinks he's a genius for hiding it so well). Your dog sounds like a combination of my two.

My dog just doesn't like them - she doesn't whine, but she'll push it away from her with her nose, or she'll take it and hide it if I put it back in front of her. I've checked her teeth, she's been checked at the vet, her teeth and mouth are fine. She just doesn't like them.
The only time I've seen her eat one is when another dog was over visiting and was eating it, then she had to have what he had; otherwise, she can't be bothered with most chews - actually, can't think of one she actually really likes.
Could be your dog just isn't interested and is trying to let you know they don't like it and they're trying to exchange it for something better... :)

Mine does this too. He's an indoor pet. It was strange because he plays fetch extremely well but not with the bones. He was whimpering and then once we had a blanket sort of wadded up in the chair and he jumped up in the chair and starting digging. He eventually learned how to unfold the blanket and fold it back up to cover the bone. Apparently it's primitive for them to bury/hide them, so if you have a clean house, there's not a lot of places to put it and it gets frustrating to the animal.

hmm my doggie does this somtimes, i think its cause she doesnt know what to do with it cause she always brings it back to me and then i put my and out and she just drop her bullystick on my hand and runs away haha. Maybe she got bored of the item? or doesnt know what to do with it finding somewhere good to hide it. i think she wants you to play with her with the chew toy/rawhide. I think its quiet normal (:

it is possible she may have had a bad experience with one? or that she had a litter of puppies... it could be that she remembers something bad happening when she got a chewy thing like that.
Or it could be that she was scolded for taking scraps or something.. perhaps a bad experience.. or she can smell what the animal used to be. dogs can be odd like that.

YES, MY MOM'S DOG DOES THIS, IT'S USUALLY CAUSE HE'S TRYING TO FIND A GOOD HIDING SPACE--IT'S LIKE A RITUAL OR SOMETHING. IF HIS BONES OR TOYS ARE MOVED HE JUST AIN'T RIGHT.

Ice is bad for your dogs teeth, just like it's bad for YOUR teeth.
