Can't help you where black hair is concerned, since I'm blonde. I've used lemon juice before. The acid in the citrus helps to strip build-up off of your hair, and they say it also lightens the color. I don't know that I noticed any lightening of my hair color, though. I was doing it to remove layers of conditioners and styling products that shampoos don't seem to completely remove.
I don't know what you're trying to accomplish by using lemon juice, but there are a lot of things in your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets that you can use on your hair (and skin too) that might surprise you.

I tried it on my auburn hair, it turned yellow. YUK.
It does not work on black hair well at all - the best result you might get is a dark orangey brown.

I have used it before. I have light brown hair and it lightened it considerably. There was no damage.

Its too weak to do anything to black hair. If anything it will make it orange or red.
