what could cause a large dark scab on my lhasa apso's head?

Sounds like a "hot spot". Lots of dogs get them. I don't know a lot about them, but when my dog gets them they go away on her own.

he could have allergies or fleas....try a medicated shampoo or there is a spray for hot spots that some dogs get

i dont know. . . a scrape or punctured area or fleas!
