My grandfather just gave my mom a set of wooden golf clubs he said were used by the golfing great Ben Hogan. He also cut out the articles in the paper showing when Mr.Hogan died in 1997. Are these clubs something valuable that we should keep as heirlooms?

First, you'd need to have authentication that Hogan owned and actually USED these clubs (more than word of mouth). If he used them in tournament play, especially a major, they could be worth something. To validate them, you could try a collector or someone that specializes in sport memorabilia.

Hogan used the same set of irons for almost his entire career. The same goes for his woods except for those that broke and had to be replaced. However, like most golfers, Hogan tried various clubs and tested every design released by his company in Fort Worth, Texas.

It would be very difficult to prove that Hogan himself ever hit a single ball with any club except the ones that are on display already.

It's best not to question grandpa's story. Just accept the clubs and keep them as a family heirloom.

JESUS TITY*UCKING CHRIST!!!! If you can actually proove that Ben Hogan used that set of clubs they should be in a museum. Go to a Ben Hogan specialist golf club, they will know what to do. Honestly the clubs will be worth millions to the right collector, that is if they are authentic. Someone in a museum is probably going mental seraching for those.

Or you could sell them to me for $50

wow. if they really were used by the great ben hogan you have two choices: keep them as heirlooms, or sell them for like a bazillion dollars and buy new heirlooms.....if u want an heirloom that is

yeah, the value is...YOU"RE RICH! he won most of his titles with macgregors, i'm assuming, but even if they were "hogans"(his own brand), used later in a casual manner, they're valuable. get them looked at by someone from macgregor or hogan, and start shopping for houses. an auction house around dallas/fort worth could do wonders with them. jeez, any auction house. for that matter.

Most likely yes, you should get them authenticated, appraised and then possibly insured. Definitely don't throw them out or sell em at a garage sale if there is that possibility.
