You're right, people have lost their common courtesy. You'll drive yourself mad if you get frustrated about it. As long as you are courteous and teach your future kids to be courteous that's all you can do. People only think for themselves and don't care how that affects others. I'm not particularly religious, but do unto others as they would do unto you, I say.

I don't know but I really hate it! No one is courteous anymore. People always blame someone else when things don't go there way. People would rather get road rage cause they are late instead of just leaving earlier or accepting that it is their fault for leaving late. Can you believe we even have a word for road rage? I do have to say though that I have been to a lot of different countries and not all of them are like we are in the US. It is bad here and I think it is all because we have this hurry up and wait mentality and if we all just slowed down a bit kindness would come back.

I'm a little disturbed when people mention about rude or impolite customers in a store but I find that more and more often the sales clerks don't even acknowledge the presence of the customers. This is sad and a reflection of today's society. Courtesy should be practiced by all people ... it costs nothing and can make a tremendous difference

How in the Hell can Satans Queen ask a question about "Courtesy?" Since when has the Devil or people proud to support devilish or evil behaviour ever cared about courtesy? Murder, rape, stealing and human degradation are what Satan stands for - not courtesy! And yes, I have a thought - get some self-esteem and get people's attention by accentuating the good things in your life not by trying to shock people into believing you are a non-conformist.

I think there are a lot of unhappy people around who want others to know there is nothing to be pleasant about. On the other hand, when someone is courteous, isn't it refreshing! Keep looking for the sunshine!

Thank you! Finally someone else agrees with me on this topic. I think that it is just because that people are getting lazy or they are too busy that they don't even think about it. I work in retail and I have to say please and thank you, I hope you have a great day. But no one says "thank you, you too" back to me. It almost makes a person feel used.

Misery loves company. They want other people to be as unhappy as they are.
People are too busy and some people have an air about them as if they are entitled to be that way.
Good question!

It is how some people raise their kids. I think it is something that must be taught at a young age, but anymore I talk to parents of young childern who have actually said to me that "I teach my kids that they should expect people to earn their respect before they show them any."
My three kids all were taught to say please and thank you as one of their first few words, and as they all reach adulthood themselves, I can say that I am proud of all of them!
