I'm with you on this one. Why spoil the child. I do make sure my kids have all they need but by no means do I spoil them. I want them when they are grown to only expect what they can give themselves. I have a friend who will spend her money on her kids with junk before paying her bills, then she cries cuz they get cut off

While I do think that many children are spoiled today, I don't think single mom's are doing it. I know many single mom's, and their children are some of the least spoiled ones I know. They do chores and have responsibilities around the house. The most spoiled children come from the 2 parent homes where both mom and dad work outside the home, and their combined income is well into the 6 digits, so mom doesn't HAVE to work in order to put food on the table, but mom WANTS to work for some undisclosed reason, because raising her kids isn't nearly as much fun as she thought it was going to be. Their children are spoiled, rotton brats, because mom feels guilty for not wanting to raise her kids, so instead of raising them like she should be, she just buys them stuff right and left. Dad's too busy climbing to the top of the corporate ladder to notice what's going on at home, but every so often, he'll get an attack of the guilts as well, so he'll buy them something as well.

I often wonder why people like this even bothered having children.

I am willing to bet that children of single moms would paint a different story. I'm a single mom and my children know that when we go into Walmart, I do not buy toys or anything that is not necessary. I know plenty of two parent homes that spoil there children because they feel guilty about not spending time with them.

Two reasons.
1, too many immature young girls having babies. A 15 y/o can't take care of herself, let alone raise a child.

2, They have this mentality that their children should have it better then they did groing up. This makes sense to a point. However turning your young, impressionalbe child into a spoiled, rude unmannered brat is unacceptable. Parents need to realize that they are rearing tomorrow's future.

single moms b/c they feel that they have to make up for that child not having a father in the home. it brings a feeling of guilt hence they spoil their kids to try and make it better.

They feel bad because they are lame parents, so they buy their kids lots of crap.

Most of my high school friends that grew up affluent can hardly make ends meet as adults.
