I've just bought a new laptop (never had one before) and it was advertised that it came with Windows XP professional. It was already installed on my laptop, but it doesn't have word or excel on it! Surely Windows XP professional should come with basic things like word?? Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing? Please help!!

No, programs like word and excel usually do not come along with a new computer unless otherwise advertised. This is a way for Microsoft to suck money out of you. You need to buy word and excel separately.

Windows XP Pro is just the operating system. To get Word and Excel you will have to buy one of the Microsoft Office Progs. There are academic versions of Office available for use on up to 3 pc's and at a reduced cost than the full version of Office

Word and Excel are part of Microsoft Office. If you didn't buy it, you won't get it.

I can recommend a GREAT FREE Office suite, Open Office:

It supports pretty much all ms office formats aswell, so switching over is easy.
