If I could carry everything I needed on my bike and had a bike I would ride a bike instead of driving. Under my current conditions, I drive but I always try to carpool and walk when I can instead of driving, like down to the store which is only a few blocks from my house.

With a hundred mile drive one way and then back. ? I used to ride a bike when I went to school and it was less than 5 miles. but now? in cal? There is no other choice. I was thinking about helicopter lessons and then I could give people rides over the traffic.

Oh it is easy to tell you to ride a bike - good exercise, good for the environment. However you are the one who has to run the risk of encountering a careless motorist not me so the decision has to be yours. Personally I use the buses a lot, but the I live in London where services are good.

Ride a bike for short distances where you don't have to look really good wherever you're going, for example: the park, the supermarket, etc. But, even if you're going somewhere really close but you're wearing nice clothes or shouldn't look sweaty, I'd opt for the car.

riding a bike could be a good excercise, but you get sweaty and stinky and you won't get to listen to music or have an Air Conditioner
