Kids take tumbles- don't feel bad. It's possible his arm could be broken, however, and the fact that he didn't cry concerns me. Usually when children don't cry after tumbles it could be a sign that they have a concussion and need to see a doctor. Tell your husband to gripe all he wants, but you have an obligation to your son and head to the E.R. now.. it's better to go and find out you're wrong than not go and find out you should have done something sooner.

A little boy in my sons first grade class fell on the play ground and hurt his arm , he didn't cry , could move it and said it was fine But he kept holding it and you could tell he was trying to compensate so he wouldn't have to use it. About 8 hours later his mom decided they better get it checked out and it was broken. So yes it could be broken , its better to be safe than sorry and have it checked out. If they say it isn't broken at least you can relax about it and just apply ice and give motrin.

If it were broken, he'd probably be screaming bloody murder.
If I were you, I'd wash it well with warm, soapy water and a wash cloth. Don't scrub it hard, but you want to try to loosen any debris (small bits of gravel, dirt, etc.) that might be in the scrapes. Pat it dry and cover any particularly badly scraped areas with neosporin. I'd just keep an eye on him for a while. If he starts acting strangely or anything seems out of whack with him, call hsi pediatrician and ask what you should do.
Did he hit his head when he fell? If so, you need to watch for signs of a concussion (uneven pupils, falling down a lot, excessive sleepiness).

Anytime a child of our own gets hurt, it just about tears us up. Anytime a child gets hurt in our presence, we feel pain. I would go to the ER, just in case. Friends of mine had a group of friends over their house for a cookout about a month ago, and one of their friends kids fell off of his bike, scraped up and bruised his left arm. The boy kept saying that it hurt, but the parents and my friends did not think it was broken as he could still wiggle his fingers. To make a long story short, the parents ended up taking the boy for x-rays a couple of days later and he had three "hairline" fractures and was put in a cast in minutes. The doctor did say that sometimes these types of injuries will heal on their own, but he didn't recommend it because it would likely heal unevenly, and cause a lot of problem later on, up to and including some loss of use of the arm. It is totally worth it to go to the ER. I know guys are supposed to be tough and all, but tough and broken are two different things. Best of luck to you, and remember, as a parent there will be lots more accidents, it is not anyones fault. Good luck!!

I hope your son is ok. I'm not a doctor but I have broken my arm before. If the arm isn't swollen and isn't radiating heat I think his arm is fine. If you are really worried about it though it wouldn't hurt to take him to the doctor to make sure his arm is dressed properly also. Don't go to the ER though. You will be there forever.

I'm not a doctor, but I've broken my wrist before. When I was younger and fell down on my wrist I was crying like crazy about it! Then I told my parents and they said I was fine cause I could still move it. The next thing we knew it was a week later and my wrist was still swollen. We went to the emergency room (cause it was the weekend), and they told us that I HAD broken it. So, YES it wouldn't hurt to still get him checked out.

Garrett1080 is wrong. He could quite possibly move it even if it was broken. I broke my ankle 3 years ago and I could still wiggle my toes and move my foot around. It required 2 hours of surgery and a stainless steel plate to hold the bones together. So, please, take your son to the doctor and let them check it out. He might just be a tough little guy who doesn't cry a lot. You don't want it to be broken and heal wrong.

It never hurts to take your kids in to the doctor after an injury. It will give you piece of mind and if there is something wrong you'll be glad you took him regardless of what your husband is telling you. Men have a tendency to underestimate what is really going on with kids and if an injury has actually caused a problem.
