no she cannot be color blind at all. color blindness is a recessive gene that only affects men, and it only causes them to not be able to tell the difference between red and green (they see all other colors normally)

keep working with her on her colors she will get it, try just one or two to start, then work your way up.

It is possible for a femal to be color blind. How color sight works is that on the X chromosome there are genes for the rods and cones in the eye, which determine color. There are none on the Y chromosome. If there is no X with good genes, color blindness. So for male, with one X, it is easier than with female, two Xs. If your husband is colorblind, it is possible. If he is not, then no.

Also, color blindness is ussually red-green or something. Our eyes see three colors, red, green, and blue. A lack of one of the three is what causes color blindness. If all her cones were defective, she would only have moderate peripheral vision. She is fine.

There is however a chance at other mental disorders, where certain concepts are impossible to understand. Color is one of them. I personally can't tell the difference between left and right, I have to make Ls with my hand. These however are EXTREMELY rare.

It's OK that your 2 year old is not identifying colors. We don't expect to see this until 3-4 years of age, although some kids pick it up earlier.

It is possible, but the important thing is to get your daughter to a professional to check, rather than worrying yourself. An optometrist can check for color blindness, and those visits are usually in the $30-40 range. She may have colorblindness, she may have other visual or other learning difficulties, but the important thing is to stop your stress and take care of any difficulties that MIGHT exist for your daughter.

Color blindness is not common at all in femles but ther is a small possiblity that she could be. It is common for toddlers to be defiant and not want to show you what they know. My best advice is to keep working on her colors and if the problem countinues through the age of four see a doctor.

Be patient mom. She's a little young yet. Make a game of it. Keep it simple however. Start with just two or three colors. My grandson is 27 months old and he's just starting with his colors too. He has blue down! depending on the shade of blue. Sometimes he knows red! or is it just a lucky guess? We just keep on trying!

Nope. Females can't be colour blind, they can only carry the gene and pass it on to sons. And it's hereditary, so if it's not in your family... not at all.
