This is nothing to fool around with. One cat who adopted us, started acting lethargic, wouldn't eat, etc. He just laid there. Of course it was a Sunday, so off to the emergency vet care we went. The vet had to catheterize him, give him an I.V. and told us that he had a very serious urinary infection. He did not think he would survive the night. He had to stay at the vet, and did survive. The vet told us that a urinary infection can be more serious in males. This happened so quickly, he was fine the day before. I wouldn't fool around with it.

nothing at home. You need to watch and make sure you cat is actually urinating. Male cats can become blocked and unable to urinate and this can cause death. If the medication did not help then your vet may want to do xrays or ultrasound to rule out bladder stones which will require surgery to remove. Or possible have the urine cultured to see which medication will work, some medications will not work on certain bacteria. Either way you need to take your cat back to the vet.

Did the vet suggest what kind of cat food to feed him. I always had my male cats on purina cat chow. If fact that`s what my vet told me to do. Take heed to what you vet tells you as a urinary infection your cat could expire and that would be sad....

Cranberry. There is a commercial product called Feline Urinary Support - they are cranberry pills - just break it up and put it with their food. Some cats will eat it out of your hand.!

I would talk to your veterinarian first to see if there is anything else that can be done. Talk with the vet about other possibilities like the one that you have mentioned.

get a drink well pet fountain, your cat will drink more so he will go more and get rid of the bacteria. keep with it on the antibiotics till they are gone, you don't want the bacteria to be resistant to the antibiotics.

Yogart, feed as much as your kitty will eat. Or beer, better off with the yogart.
