My 2 year old cat also has bad teeth, his however is because he is alergic to his on spit (no joke). His teeth go brown in colour and if it gets really bad his gums can start to bleed, this makes him pretty grumpy and he doesn't tend to eat much. We use special biscuits from the vets which help to keep his teeth clean and seem to stop his gums from bleeding. Think the brand is "Hills" (UK) He has about a small handful a day and this seems to help loads. We've tried brushing his teeth and he hates it so we stick to these biscuits and make sure we keep an eye on his gums.
Also don't forget that cat do lose their coats in the summer which can make it look like they've lost weight.

please visit a homeopathic or nutritional expert for your pet, and work in connection with your regular vet to get this under control. Most vets receive less than 2 hours of training in nutritional therapy. This sounds like a very serious situation. She could have a severe imbalance of vitamins and minerals, have allergies or other issues that are destroying her teeth. The health of a pet's (or your) teeth are a good indicator of general health.

I don't have any experience with Persians, but pure bred animals can have inbred issues which cause health problems. Research the breed to find out what Persians special needs are.

You can also brush your cat's teeth. Petromalt makes special toothpaste and brushs for them. (Don't use your toothpaste on her!)

Good luck -- I hope everything turns out well for your furry one!

Do you feed her dry food? crunching on that can help the teeth also get some special cat toothpastte and brush at a pet store and brush, brush, brush. If the teeth are that bad though you may want to take her to your vet where they will be professionaly cleaned while she is knocked out with anestesia (sp)

It helps if you can manage to brush her teeth, either ababy brush or you can get them from pet stores.
My cat had the same problem and was losing weight too, our vet recommended getting the tartar removed as this was making it sore and difficult to eat.Once removed our cat was back to her normal self.

cat foods like felix, whiskas, go cat etc... are full of salt sugar and additives. try feeding on iams dry food as this helps clean there teeth and has all the nutrients they need. if you go to the supermarket it's usually a lot more expensive so try the garden centres, or ask your local cattery where they get there supply from as they probably get it a lot cheaper.

persians are usually finicky eaters. If shes overeating but not gaining weight or is losing weight due to her diet it has to be the food shes being given. Change her diet and see what happens. I recommend Iams or science diet... maybe even a kitten formula until she begins to regain weight. And good luck.
