To learn a language well you must first immerse yourelf in the culture.

Drink wine, eat garlic, a bit of 'fine dining' followed by some sheep burning, going on strike - for everything, sinking a greenpeace boat or two, start a revolution......

I being a Scot can take the philosophical view due of 'the auld alliance', and extract the urine from my own culture too:

Drink 'irn-bru', eat haggis, a bit of deep fried pizza followed by some non-world class football, never letting the English forget '1314 AD' and denying that Prime Minister, Tony Blair is a Scotsman......

I signed up for a conversational class at the university and it was very helpful and a lot of fun. Many universities offer night classes as well as day classes in learning to speak French. I also bought a French tape/cassette that helped you to learn French. You can get them at most book stores. I hope this helps you.

i've been learning french a long time and the best thing i can suggest if you don't have the time/inclination to go there is to find evening classes at a local college, if you're in uni try and take an erasmus year (and find a french boyfriend), that worked for me!

http://www.frenchassistant.com/default.asp looks to be a very good site, as does http://french.about.com/

You'll find links to all kinds of French language learning resources at http://www.ilovelanguages.com/index.php?category=Languages%7CBy+Language%7CFrench

My basic advice would be to look for sites or computer programs with lots of interactive content - quizzes and the like. You learn a language best by using it (I found this out the hard way, studying five languages at university!)

Good luck with your learning :)

Start now, the earlier you start the easier it is, and buy some cassette tapes to listen to whilst doing stuff you do everyday, or stick post-it notes over everything saying what it is in french.

(I do not understand, please repeat it)

tell your loved ones individuals to no longer communicate any english to you or you may try going to France devoid of letting your loved ones individuals be attentive to. as quickly as you're there you may starve to dying for some days and that i'm specific that in the past you be attentive to it you would be talking French to the human beings to get some meals.

Without being glib, go to France. You can always learn a language better in the country where it's spoken naturally.
