I've recently noticed that my two kittens have fleas. I've went out and bought a couple of flea collars, can anyone tell me how long these will take to work, and what else can I do to rid my house of these beasties?

A vet friend of mine told me that flea collars are a waste of money--that they just cause the fleas to move to another place on the pet. My sister uses a damp cloth (dampened in Dawn dish detergent) to wipe them down. Then, she lets them dry without rinsing. The vet says it works and doesn't hurt the kittens. My sister's cats have no fleas.

As far as the house goes, the only thing I've found that works is "flea bombs" that you set off in an enclosed area, then washing their bedding.

Flea collars don't work worth the materials they're made with. They'll only keep them off the neck and nowhere else. Collars or powders should not be used on kittens less than 6-8 weeks of age. You should be able to get something like Advantage from your vet. When you schedule the appointment, you may want to have your home fumigated while you're gone. If you have a fish tank put a bed sheet over it, so the spray doesn't contaminate it. Everyone should be out of the house while you do this. Afterwards, you'll have to vacuum the whole house from top to bottom. It will also help to have the yard treated, too. Hope this helps.

Take off the flea collars and bathe your kittens immediatly. Flea collars do not work and can be extremely harmful (or fatal!) to your cat/kitten.

Get some Frontline for these two. It lasts up to a month, and vets highly recommend it. Also, if you allow the cats to go outdoors, make them stay indoors all the time. That will help to control the situation. And if you have a steam cleaner, steam clean your carpets. I was told that the suction, the heat, and the chemicals from your steam cleaner can be more effective than vacuuming your carpet to rid your house of fleas. Do not use any flea bombs or "OTC" flea products. They are not as safe for your animals as they should be!!

Flea collars use pesticides, and are unsafe for the pet and anyone who touches it. Get frontline or advantage from your vet, they are more expensive than a flea collar but more effective than anything else out there, plus they are not made with pesticides. I am using Natural Defense on my dogs right now, it smells like peppermint and clove, if you can stand the smell of that then pick some up. It was like 13$ for 3 months, a fraction of the price of the vet stuff and it really works.

you wasted your money. Flea collars are worthless. You need to get your cat a flea product from your vet that will work. Then you need to either fog or vacuum your house and get rid of the bag and stay on top of it. Once you get fleas in your house it isn't a quick fix to get rid of them. You also need to keep your cat on a flea product ALL the time

I can only relay to you what my Vet. told me about "flea collars" she told me they are a waste of money,,that they do nothing, sorry,,,I went through what you are going through,,only with a dog, I now use "revolution",,it may seem expensive to use, but well worth it,,have not had any problems since I started using it on Abby,,,as for your house you will need to "bomb" it,,"Hartz" has a home fogging kit,,and it also works very well,,had to use it myself,,,good luck to you,,hope this helps

Hope you enjoy wasting your money, because they do not work. Get Advantage or something that really works. They are better for your pet also.
