Well, many of them must work, or they wouldn't be around! But seriously, it can. My best friend met her fiance on one. I kinda found my boyfriend on one. I knew him for a while, hadn't really ever talked to him tho. Then saw his profile and got in touch! Come to find out, we'd both been interested in each other for a few years.

In this new age of, computer dating, you have to try all types of methods. I used the internet services. I did get dates, but I also got many who lied, or dated many others too. So, the best is to try it out and see how you do, but be cautious and selective. I usually try to talk and email for a little bit so you can get an idea if you get along on the phone. Many sound good on line, but may not be like the profile, or not a good communicator. It's all in what you put into it. If you don't take it seriously, and see it more as a way to see how you are at dating, you will see what it's like, and hopefully make some new friends. Just be cautious, there are some real "players" out there. Ask questions, be selective, and state what you want. Most of all don't put soo much in your profile that could give away where you live or who you are.
Also, try to get involved with groups of other singles such as hiking, or ski clubs, activities that you would enjoy. Just some suggestions.

It has worked for me. I did get hurt once before I found the man I am currently dating but that happens in life. Everything is going great for us so I think that yes it can work. It's not just desperate people and child molesters, that is a stupid statement from an uninformed idiot.

It depends on what you mean by work. Can you meet people on them? Yes. Do the people generally meet your expectations? Not always. Is it a good way to meet a gf/bf? Frankly I think doing things you enjoy and meeting people that way gives you just about as good of odds. Of course, my experience as a female has been a little tainted by the number of men who go on those sites to find women for sex. That sucks!! If I wanted to just have sex, I could go to a bar and get that and I don't have to pay!

Ya I'd say they work it just takes a little time. My sister works for Matchmaker International and she's setting up around 10 people a day. So go ahead give it a try.

Match.com is not working for me. My friend is having very good luck on there. It all depends on what you are looking for I guess. Some of them have free 30 day trials. I would go on some of those and try them out before u pay any money.
