Why is it more expensive to buy healthy, but way cheaper to buy junk food? America is such an obese country.

Because of two reasons:
1) Healthy food, especially fruits and veggies, take much more work to produce. They need to be grown by a person, not made by a machine in a factory. So the production costs are higher
2) Companies that produce junk food know that if they place the prices low people will be more willing to buy thier food. They will always recover the cost in the long run because they will sell so much more product.

Precisely. Besides wealthy ppl...poor ppl are ski rocketing in the obesity bracket. Ppl wonder....if you were poor and couldn't afford food, wouldn't you be skinny? Wrongo. When you are poor, you skimp. It IS cheaper to buy a bag of chips for a snacking during the week than a lb. of grapes or a bunch of bananas.

Have you seen all the moves the government is making to "slim-down" America?? They should start by lowering the price of fruit. Yes..by the way they regulate farming and trade they make the product more expensive.

If you have the space to grow your own food it wouldn't be. However, it is becoming more and more easier for food service companies to mass produce food. And when I say food I mean junkfood usually consisting of large amounts of hydrogenated oils, saturated fat and refined sugars. It is no longer becoming lucrative for farmers to grow produce because of weather elements and other hurdles.
If you want to go into some sort of conspiracy theory you may even blame the medical community. If everyone was healthy then there would be a drop in currency flowing into this industry; and big medicine fuels big government. So, the best thing you can do is find local organic/vegan growers in your area and buy directly from them.

probably because fats and fillers are cheaper to make. u can basically suck all the goodness out of something with no effort, but to maintain nutritional integrity is really hard. I am trying to lose like ten pounds and am finding my grocery bill is racking up the damage. lean ground beef that is 90/10 is expensive, all my soy products are expensive and most of my beverages are expensive. i guess people need to look at the long term results as opposed to the short term financial crunch.

I think it's supply and demand. More people choose to eat the junk, so it's cheaper. I buy organic and vegetarian foods at the grocery and it is lots more expensive! I just think it's because most people don't eat healthy.

Because the source crops of unhealthy foods, like corn, are heavily subsidized by the goverment so that they are cheeper to produce.

Read labels and see how much corn is in the average American diet - it is frightening. From soda (high fructose corn syrup) to meat fillers (corn) we consume a LOT of corn.

When you have to pay the entire cost of production, the cost goes up significantly.

circulate to Lidl or Aldi to your fruit and veg its continually good high quality yet usually extra low fee than the foremost supermarkets. I even have observed that many products interior the"wholesome" stages fee alot extra effective than the known variety, yet once you look on the labels you will locate that the nutritional values are not so distinctive and a few are surely extra proper for you than the "wholesome" ones!

I don't think it is more expensive. Compare the cost of meat by the pound, to fruits and vegetables by the pound. Meat is way more expensive. Beans and tofu are also way cheaper.
