Sometimes I wonder what is it to be an atheist. How does it feels like. I want to know if you feel you have a soul?

As a Christian I feel I have the spirit of my God inside me, and yes I have felt times when his Holy Spirit isn't inside me at all, and it is an empty feeling. I ask God to forgive my sins and touch me with his spirit and then I feel it again. I also feel it in my heart.

Do you feel you have a soul?

Define "soul" and I'll get back to you on that.

The soul is indistinguishable from the brain, even for believers. For example, if a person suffers from permanent amensia, what happens to her soul? How is her soul different before or after the accident? Which person goes to heaven? Which goes to hell?

As I have a brain and can think, my life experience is pretty much the same as yours. The only difference in how it feels is I don't have to judge others based on a 2,000 year old mythology book, as I did when I was a Christian.

I can accept people for who they are, and so long as they don't harm em or others, I have no problem with how they live there lives. I live for THIS life, not the blank and vague promise of a supposedly better one to come.

Most christians think that by being an atheist, you will want to harm and kill people, since there is no consequence. That sickens me, because it implies that all Christians have desires to rape and kill people, but only when they think about the bible do they not do it. The simple fact is that the vast majority of us don't want to harm other people, and the bible doesn't have a very good track record of stopping people from doing so.

Um I'm not an atheist but... here it goes anyway. I always thought that anyone regardless of religious belief, or lack thereof or not, HAS a soul. So what you are saying or trying to say I believe (I'm fairly certain I'm misinterpreting, or hoping I am) is that atheists don't have souls? Or do you mean atheists don't believe they have souls? I believe the soul is simply the lifespark, and doesn't have very much to do with God or anything, and every living creature (including plants), anything that can regenerate cells and reproduce and stuff has a soul.

I don't know what a soul is. Do you?
I've never seen one. Have you?

To ask an atheist what it feels like not to have a soul is like asking your mother what it feels like not to have a pet unicorn.

I realize it's very comforting for some to think there's some invisible thing inside us that shapes and defines who we are, but I simply see no evidence of it. And I cannot miss or lament what I've never known.

So, what does it feel like not to have a soul? It's a bit of an absurd question, since there is no such thing as a soul. But I like the challenge of trying to answer.

It feels real and honest to accept that I don't have to believe in something simply because someone says I'm supposed to. I feel utterly human, completely natural, and entire grounded in reality. I know I'm being true to myself when I reject a concept that makes no sense and offers no proof as to its validity.

Give me the proof. Show me hard evidence that there is such a thing as a soul. Then we'll talk.

One last thing...there is a certain, personal bliss a person feels when she allows herself the freedom to reject the nonsensical and embrace the laws of physics and nature.

Everyone has a "soul" because the soul is just the brain. Some people choose to call it a soul to enforce the idea of an afterlife, but everything that a so-called soul does (except live forever) is done by the brain. Thoughts, feelings, emotions, that's your brain.

God, Satan, the soul...all of them are terms for things that don't actually exist. Those good feelings that you experience are chemical reactions in the brain and body.

I feel like any other person though. When I accomplish a task, I feel good, knowing that I accomplished it...me. When I don't succeed at something, I know that its my fault, and I have to take responsibility for that. If anything, I feel a bit better knowing that I'm the master of my "fate", instead of "leaving it up to god" or crying that "its the devils fault".

Someone asked for a definition of the word soul.

It is what leaves your body upon death. Isn't that why they can't bring people back to life? Because they have no soul?

A soul is something that cannot be proven, just like God. But it cannot be disproven either.

The concept of Heaven or Hell is illogical. It was created to control the population with fear. Is there an after life? You have a 50-50 chance. No one knows for sure. I feel great. I don't worry about tomorrow. I live today. Tomorrow may never come.

I feel better now than I did when I was not a non-believer. I am happy and content with my life and the beliefs therein. I love my family, have a good job, and help others in my community that need it. I don't see how that is any different than someone who has belief in a deity.

There is no soul. I feel great every day, I don't have the self loathing feelings that the bible teaches you. I don't disapprove of any one else's lifestyle, unless they are killing and/or raping people. I don't feel guilty about living life to it's fullest. Not having a soul rocks!!
