My family got a puppy from a rescue and its not that the other pets don't like him its just that the cats are stubborn. The same thing happened when we got another cat about four years ago and the first one marked the house. We have tried everything short of moving and ripping up carpet.

Ya don't have to burn the carpet! Get this stuff called "Simple Solution"--it comes in gallon jugs, I buy it at Petco or Petsmart...it's an enzyme solution you soak the affected area and when it dries, BAM, no more pee smell!
If it's REALLY SUPER BAD CAT urine, you may have to apply twice.

AND, try that "urine finder" black light--that'll show the grossest stuff you wouldnt even think a cat would pee on, and soak that too with the SS.

I like PetZyme and Natures Miracle. Natures miracle is technically for skunk smell but it works wonders on the ammonia in pet urnine. there is also this product that many people don't know about made by a company called Bi-O Kleen. They make biodegradable safe products for cleaning your house. Try their all purpose cleaner, it works for pet and laundry stains, it is awesome! I use it all over my house and you don't have to be afraid it's going to harm your pets, kids or furniture.

Burning the carpet is the only way to get the smell out. I have tried all the products out there in the shelter I work at, and NONE of them did the job.

If it has soaked through to the pad you will have to pull up the carpet and replace the soiled pad. That's the only way to get rid of the smell.

You can steam clean the carpet. But if it is to bad it will not get rid of all the odor

Odo-Ban is made for pet odors. You may have to replace the carpet depending on how deep it is, but I would try the Odo-Ban first.

Try using Sudsy Ammonia, it works in the laundry as well.
Seems to take Ammonia to get the ammonia smell out.
