It seems like my kids take everything for granted, and everything is such a hassle for them unless it's what they wanted at that moment! It's driving me wild!

Ok, I know, the ebb and flow of the day, hormones, etc....but all I am asking for is some basic respect...some days it seems like that's just too much to ask and most days they are AWESOME KIDS! I love them, and want OFF the roller coaster ride...guess I'll just have to ride it out and try to smile! I think I'll take some of these things to heart though, about having a job and taking some responsibility for their own livelihoods! Maybe that would help some, to see what the real world is all about.

Hold on to your seat it's going to be a bumpy ride for the next few years. It stops about the age of twenty for boys....sometimes longer. Pray......use humor............don't sweat the small stuff........and pray some more.

That is how it is, with teens. they seem to think that all they have around them, is granted to them by some genie in a bottle. A home to live in, clean clothes, food, pocket money. No one at home, goes out to work to earn the money for all those things.
They are living on easy street, no rent to pay, no hard chores to do, just eat, sleep, have fun, play with all their video games, etc. OH yeah, that's the life.
Well soon enough, in a couple of years, they will be out there, making a living, buying their own food, paying for their own rent, buying their own car, insurance and gasoline. All the things, that are magically now, laid out for them.
That, Dear Joy, is where, you can sit back and laugh, as they come over, and lay all those sad problems they have to deal with in the real world.
Maybe then they will appreciate what they had.
Isn't it strange, that so many late twenties and early thirties, people, end up, by coming home to roost.
What ever happened to the Empty nest syndrome?

From the biological stand point, there bodies are going through lots of wild changes...and that includes their minds. So they don't even know what they are thinking/doing(you do remember bering a teen, right)
They have also not had any life experience. Everything has been done for them or handed to them. They have had to work for nothing. So they let the water run all day, they don't have to pay for it.
The only way to get maturity is to get older(say 25) and get some life experience.....once they have to pay a water bill, they know it's not free.

Of course they take things for granted. Look at Goths they claim their life is bad and so sad. But their wealthy parents buy the gothy crap for them.
They have it easy, their parents don't make them work, they dont get punished. They are taught to have high self esteem but not given an education in schools.
Parents are the problem.

Because they don't think the same way that adults do. They see nothing wrong with their behaviour and in fact they believe it to be mature, normal and acceptable. Complicate that with hormonal issues and the weird social situations they find themselves in with no way of coping with it...well no wonder they act the way they do!
Kids don't get anything resembling maturity until they're in their 20s.

Easy girl, you're talking to one, basically it's probably just because they are at the point in their lives where they need a little more privacy and alone time, don't worry they'll eventually calm down once they reach the late teens/early twenties

Why? Hormones
When? Hard to say. Used to be around 18, but I believe 30 is the new 18. Hang tough.

Take away what their taking for granted. They get more mature as life goes on. There is not a designated time frame for people.

Take all of the necessities away from them. Make them earn everything back, by doing chores or what ever! Make them learn what a $ really means.
