everyone who was born in the 1900's - 1960's all grew up fine and we didn't have any news alerts about "TONS OF OUT OF CONTROL CHILDREN!"

it seems that once rabid feminism and liberalism took hold, they didn't want boys being aggressive or acting like boys, so they decided to come up with a disease for it.

PS - y'all know that giving your kid ritalin/adderall is the same thing as giving him speed but in very low doses

if it has to do with diet then why is it the ratio of boys put on add drugs to girls is 4:1? seems there is little tolerance foe 'maleness' these days. girls are put on prozac so they are more outgoing and act like boys. they're trying to turn the tables.

all ADD meds are just SPEED, its a controlled substance. cant cure anything.

You're joking right? It's an abused term, but an actual disease. Kids who used to be dismissed as stupid can now be helped to succeed in life.

Do you really believe that everyone who grew up from 1900-1960 grew up fine? I'd recommend you read some history books, periodicals, and other literature from the time. You're out of your mind if you really believe people were any less screwed up back then.

The reason ritalin works on kids who actually have ADD is that it actually has the opposite reaction in them than it does in normal children. It slows them down and allows them to focus, whereas it acts like speed for the rest of us.

What we need to crack down on is Doctors getting kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies. There's absolutely no reason a doctor should be paid any more for prescribing a specific brand of medication. That's bad medicine.

I agree with both sides to an extent, though I think it has nothing to do with feminism. Being diagnosed with it, I did allot of research and I do not think it is a disorder at all, just a different way of being. Farmer vs hunter gather. The human species started out as hunter gatherers, always on the alert, ready to jump at a noise to protect ourselves. Farming and building stronger shelters started taking over and farmers can plod along doing monotonous stuff without a problem. Farmers are the majority and don't like it when someone is different. It's a farmers world and the pharmaceutical companies are making a killing helping the hunter gatherer types fit in. As pack animals, fitting in is necessary for survival, unfortunately.

George, my son is grown now, but he has ADHD. I am a nurse and I fought taking him to the doctor about this for a very long time. It was an injustice to him. He was miserable in his first three years of school. He told me one time that he could "feel himslef being bad, but he didn't know how to stop it"! You may find this stupid but having had PMS problems I kinda understood what he meant. Educated as I was, I KNEW that since he is a male it wasn't PMS, had to be SOMETHING ELSE. He was on Ritalin from the fourth grade through the eleventh grade. He will tell you that it saved his life. His grades went from failing to honor roll, he could concentrate, he was no longer the "bad" kid (teachers words) in the class. Today he is 24y/o, married and successfully working in his chosen profession. Here's my repsonse to some of the things that people throw back at you about ADHD kids:
1. ADHD is a chemical imbalance in the
brain.
2. It is inherited from a parent, usually
mother to son.
3. It was around in the 60's and 70's they
just called us "bad kids"
4. I was told it would stunt his growth, thank
goodness he took it, he is as we speak
6'2" and weighs 235#'s. Which is fine
because he is a professional athlete.
5. Don't judge things about which you are
not qualified to judge. If you are a mental
health professional then, you should
know better. If you are a lay person then
you are certainly welcome to your opinion
My son was not out of control and I am neither a feminist nor am I rabid. I am a caring, loving mother who did the best she could for her only child. Perhaps you should poll some people who have ADHD and see what they have to say.

Well, I don't know about that. I think more likely is the fact that processed foods and better living and farming through chemicals has had more to do with this disease. In fact, it seems to me to be an out of control sugar high (and when you consider that there is sugar in everything and high fructose corn syrup, it sounds very plausible).

It is similar to Autism. Autism was unknow some years ago and now 1 in 166 kids in america is diagnosd as such. China had no incidents at all until they started using our baby formula and vaccinations.

I know lots of women who have boys and they love their enthusiasm and mischeif, really. It is when the child gets out of control that a parent even speaks to a dr about it. I mean "Boys will be boys" is still true, but a boy who cannot control himself long enough to listen to his parents and teachers, needs medical attention (though I would always opt for naturopathic and organic methods with kids).

Peace

Pretty much answered your own question. With the feminsim part, women were free to go pursue their own lives and careers to the detriment of the American family. Easier to medicate kids than take the time to raise them.

The same goes for liberalism. When we took the focus off teaching children to explore and become the best people they could be, we focused on their feelings and sheltered them from any adversity which could possibly damage their fragile psyches. Society emasculated men from leaders and heads of families to simple life accessories for the successful woman, to be discarded on a whim like last years shoes. In a bent family court system where judges, with their male protective reflex still intact, routinely give custody to mothers just because they are women. Successful powerful women in the workplace become the most timid abused victims in the courtroom. I AM NOT DIMINISHING TRULY ABUSED WOMEN HERE. I am addresseing society at large where children are routinely raised without fathers.

This is the result of two generations of boys who never learned to be men.

They did it to make money selling pharmaceuticals and suppress intellegence so that the society will eventually become controllable like sheep.

Many great people in history would have been candidates for labeling and medicating. Thomas Edison only had 3 months of formal public schooling in his life. Many great leaders and inventors were known to be "hyperactive" as kids.

The public education system is not equipped to educate children, especially gifted ones. They just want to keep them quiet and orderly.

they didn't make it up. Most of my friends until I moved have add or adhd. It is a real chemical imbalance in the brain, it is not just the kids acting up. Do you think the kids want to be thought of as 'weird' and get bad grades cause they can't concentrate?
I do agree, though, lots of badly-parented children are just being diagnosed with add or adhd, but there are people who have it.

Are you all nuts? People have had ADHD and ADD for MANY years but it wasns't diagnosed properly years ago (not as many parents took kids to a psychiatrist years ago- they just punished their kids for something Not their fault). When untreated in usually turns into manic depression(bipolar disorder) or another mental illness on top of the ADHD or ADD. Shame on you people who think it is a made up disease!!!!!!
