You're not letting go. For whatever reason you refuse to surrender, when you choose to surrender, just let go. What you have to do is find out why you won't surrender.

I know what you are going through in the sense of believing. The thing is, in the last fifty or so years, society has stopped teaching and inforcing the traits of religion while in school. Today, in school, you are taught the theory of evolution. Note that it is still considered a theory. You also have the study of science and the teaching that everything can be solved through science taught in the classroom. The will of God and his miricles transend that which can be seen, felt, tasted, or touched. Perhaps one of the most contoversion topics is the story of creation and the way it conflicts with the Theory of the Big Bang. Science says the universe started from something mysterious while the Bible and religion says that God stated "Let there be Light". Scientifically, at the moment, NEITHER one can be proven. Any scientist that says it can be, is simply..... wrong. There is NO way, right now, to know for sure when and how the universe began. Another topic of controversy is the age old question, "how can a loving God let all the bad things happen?". Scientifically, this could be evidence to the lack thereof of a higher being. Religiously however, it is said that everyone on earth must face a time of turmoil and the way they react in the moment determines who they are and either enforces or dematerializes their beliefs. I once heard that sometimes, bad things happen to good people because those good people are already on their course to heaven and they can be used to help touch someone who isn't. Basically, out of everything bad comes something good. I fully understand what you are going through. I still, sometimes question something and even wonder why now and then. however, I have felt what I believe to be the Holy Spirit on me in various times of my life. I also believe that it drives me in my day to day life and keeps me out of trouble. For me, it took joining the military before I fully accepted religion and Christ. Up until that point, i had large doubts. For others, its easier. Regardless of how you..... determine what you believe.... Have faith that in one way or another, you will see/feel the Holy Spirit and God's work. good luck. Oh yeah..... don't try to soak all of religion in at once.... there is a LOT and a LOT conflicts with a LOT of science. Take it little by little and be willing to accept that there is someone Higher than you out there.

I believe the reason you are having a hard time surrendering your will over to God is because you are holding something back. It sounds as though you have a stronghold in your life. You need to ask God to help you to turn your will over to him - you can't do it by yourself. This stronghold you have in your life could be an addiction or something you just don't want to give up. That stronghold needs to be destroyed completely. Ask the Holy Spirit to intervene in the situation and ask a Christian friend to help you out. You need someone to pray for you and ask God to destroy that barrier that is stopping you from entering into His presence. Satan doesn't want you to surrender so that means you will have to work a little bit harder but it will be worth it. Ask God to take the scales off your eyes so that you can see the real truth and that your heart would be receptive to whatever he has for you.

Turning your will over to GOD is like turning the stearing wheel over to GOD.... You do it, the car swerves out of control, and you immediately take the wheel back or swerve into a tree and die.... whichever comes first.
I don't care what some weirdo Christian says about things miraculously happening as if some invisible third party intervened and saved the day, GOD does not work like that. By "Turning your will" over to GOD, you would need to be willing to live and make decisions in accordance to GOD's Will. After all, if you don't do it, and somone else does it on your behalf, then you didn't actually do it, then, did you?
And, I know what your thinking.... "How can us weak, insignificant mortals possibly know what the will of GOD is?", well you're in luck! GOD clearly stands for peace and morality. Almost every desire GOD has for us and our conduct can be determined by this fact. It isn't until you get into the hard questions like self defense and punishment for crimes that you can expect to need any advice or debate as to what is the true Will of GOD.
Even after taking this into consideration, you may still have trouble putting your life in GOD's hands.... for example, I'm a smoker. Ever since they put more ammonia in cigarettes, I believe they are the most disgusting tasting things on Earth, but I still can't stop smoking them. Believe me, I want to stop, but it's hard as Hell! At any rate, keep trying. It isn't as hard as lt looks once you realize that GOD doesn't work like the Movies would have you believe that Guardian Angels work.....
To quote Benjamin Franklin (World Famous Atheist),
"GOD helps those that help themselves."

You are having trouble because you are human.
You are used to doing your own will.
Before you can turn your will over to God,
you have to be sure of a few issues first.
If you believe in God, do you know about him enough to trust him with your entire life? Trust must be in place before you can take the step of turning over your will to God. It's a big decision and a person needs to understand God before they can really trust Him. Read His Word.
You have to be sure that you understand what you are getting yourself into before you dive in. Jesus said a man needs to consider a project before undertaking it, to be sure he has what it takes to finish it.
I think you should do what Jesus said and consider carefully your decision. When you are sure about what you are doing, then you won't have such a hard time doing it.
I believe Jesus Christ can be trusted completely. He will never let you down, if you trust in Him. I've been trusting for 27 years now.
Worth every second.
Understand?

I like your question!! About 4 weeks ago I did surrender myself to God and it really wasn't all that hard, but I will tell you that 4 27 years it was. One of my problems was that I was confused. It all lies on the line of FAITH. Your bible can help you a tremendous amount and prayers are always a good tool. You really need to work on your relationship with God through Jesus. He died for your sins and that is a great sacrifice. Something that I don't think I could do myself. Ecspecially for all the sinners in this world. But Jesus loved us all so much that he surrendered himself for us.
The life you live also has a big part in it. I have chosen many of wrong choices and lived a life of this world only to be hurt time and time again. When you senecerly, from the bottom of your heart, give your life over to the Lord it is just that simple, but the life choices we make cloud us up and makes it really hard to do the right thing. I look at it this way, Jesus paid the ultimate price for me and you and he deserves for me and you to live by his rules. The rules are in the Bible and they can help you understand more about God and Jesus.
I know that the day that I completely surrendered myself to him I laid all of my burdens down at his feet and at that moment my slate was wiped clean. He has forgiven me for all the wrong I have done and He blesses me DAILY!!
For years I've heard of his great glory but until I truly gave myself to himself I could never truly know. He is a powerful and merciful God and just ask for his help. Matthew 7:16-21 helped me understand that it's not as easy as just calling on him, you also have to live for him. God Bless you and I hope that this helps. If you need to talk just write me. my time will be your time.

It is important to remember, of course, that whenever you make up your mind to put Jesus first and your own desires second, a special supply of strength is directed towards you by God. It will not be as hard as you think, for God's help is given to all those who step out to obey Him and live the way He expects. If you decide to 'take up your cross', I promise you a thrilling new discovery - by denying self and putting God first, you will know the joy of becoming more like Jesus.
Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, I do so long to be strong and brave in my testimony for You. Help me to accept this challenge, and to deny my own selfish pleasure, so that You can be glorified in me this very day. Amen.

Hope this helps!

Because it's not easy!!! It's very mature of you to recognize your struggle, so many people would rather go on thinking that there's nothing wrong with them, when we all have some will to give up.
Don't give up. Keep praying, seek good advise, or professional help (if you need it), remove yourself from bad situations, and I'm sure someday, you'll look back and smile at how far you've come.
Best wishes

Because you are not insane. You would be, if you just blindly followed a man-made belief that is utterly faulty. Why would God want you to turn your will over to Him anyway. That's what religion wants you to do so that they can control you and pick your pocket. He created you with a brain that is capable of thinking logically and with free will....use it.

Its hard because theres always going to be a battle between your flesh and your spirit. But the bible says to WALK in the spirit, and you will not fullfill the lusts of the flesh. (gal. 5:16) .... whatever you feed more will grow. if you feed your flesh more, that issue is going to continue ruling over you, but if you feed your spirit, your spirit will win. It isnt easy, trust me.. the bible even says that the spirit is WILLING, but the flesh is weak. Pray.. without ceasing, and know that God's will is for your benefit and your happiness. He's there for you. His love covers a multitude of sin.
Read ISAIAH 43 ... its great
