I mean, wow. It can get pretty sickening hearing some of the comments Athiests have towards Christians. "Christians are mentally ill," Christians are "Jesus Freaks," etc. Who I believe in, is constantly being mocked beyond belief on Yahoo Answers; I can understand some repulsion of some Christians trying to convert some Athiests over the internet, which I myself actually find ridiculous and lazy. Luke 16:19-31 basically has a moral that says people have to change on their own free will. I can't force anyone to change. So I don't, unless they ask me to. There are a lot of "Christians" here who don't read the Bible (and may not know that scripture) and may say ridiculous things, but why go so low as to degrade the Christian society back to a civil rights-type era?

Some good answers, but let me reiterate for some:

What's the difference between White supremacists ->BASHING<- Blacks, and Athiests ->BASHING<- Christians?

I'm not comparing the two eras.

To those that say Athiests are the minority and have no power...Seems kind of ironic when there's been debate with removing "under God," from the Pledge of Allegiance, "In God we trust" from our money and many Christian landmarks located throughout the states, all of which this land was founded on. There's also the problem with legalizing gay marriage and abortion which is religious moral against free will.

@ Allie: Let it sink in. And reading my question in my entirety might help as well.

That's so true! Only the person in questions can find God but only God can save them! I think that some not all people are just trying to get the great word of God out so those people my read it and see the wrong of there ways! I mean I pass out Bible tracks and try to tell my family and friends that are non believers about the word! But you do have to respect those people and if they tell you to stop then that's what you should do! But what about all the mission trips people go on to speak the word of God? I mean I just think that its education!

PS
God told us we would be persecuted!

There is a big difference. People can't help what race they are... it's pure chance. Moreover, it's something which is ultimately irrelevant to how they will interact with other people.

People's religion is different. It is a belief structure which a person has adopted (unless they are completely spineless and just believe everything they are told). Belief structures are there to be knocked down. I'll admit that that a lot of what is said on here is nothing more than mindless abuse, and that's wrong, but it's perfectly acceptable to criticise them and point out their flaws.

To compare it to racism is, quite simply, ridiculous. There is no real similarity between the two. It would be better to compare it to the Liberal bashing which goes on so much here. Political ideologies are similar to religious ones. Accident of birth is not.

What's the difference between white supremacists bashing Blacks and Athiest Bashing Christians?

Not much.

It is self defeating to assert ones "truth" by discrediting another. Truth does not require such a thing, because it can't be truth, for truth will stand on its own merits.

If I have to "prove" that my religion is right by disproving yours, then I can neither be right, nor can I be true. It's self-defeating. If truth cannot stand by itself, then it's not truth.

You can find a few racist and anti-Semitic web sites on the internet, but the numbers pale in comparison to the millions of anti-Catholic web sites. There is not one "bible-Christian" web site that teaches the truth about the Catholic Church. Not one. But you will not find a Catholic web site that misrepresents other Christians with hate, lies, and bigotry.

In fact, the Catholic Church has ended 4 centuries of the post -reformist era by handing out an olive branch. She recognizes that truths are taught in churches outside of herself. Some progress has been made in mutual dialogue in order to heal some of these wounds to unity. The Church has no desire to obliterate denominational identity as the paranoids want you to believe.

As soon as the word "Catholic" is mentioned in any question or answer, the hate, lies and bigotry flow like a tidal wave. Just watch.

White people and Christians in western civilization have a great deal of control over voting and policy in the political world. Much more than Blacks or atheists. For example there are MANY television channels dedicated solely to Christianity. There isn't ONE dedicated solely to atheism. That's not a complaint. It's a fact.
Power is what makes the difference. To complain about "Christian bashing" is to press charges against a toddler for hitting you. It's silly. In Roman times, Christians were persecuted. They were rounded up and fed to lions in horrific spectacles.

Now the Christians OWN the lions.

Move on.

1. Christians are the majority, stop acting like you're not.
2. Christians started bashing atheists first.
3. Christians choose to be Christians and therefore accept that there are going to be people who don't share their views.
4. I've never heard of an atheist burning a cross on a Christians yard, have you?
5. Most atheists try not to but it's really hard.

i think atheists who go out of their way to bash christians have issues but your comparison is beyond flawed. 1st athiests , in theory are responding to what they percieve as christian opression. 2nd, no matter how badly they talk about christians the extremes they would go to are nowhere close to what white supremicist would go to. When was the last time you heard of athiests plotting a "holy war"? When was the last time an athiest lynched a christian or eve nburned a symbol on their lawns? Christians are the dominant group in this country so anything athiests say or do can mostly be shrugged off. doesn't make it any better, but it is not even close to being alike.

What's the difference between white supremacists bashing Blacks and Christian Bashing Athiests? Don't kid yourself: there are rotten apples on both sides.

Wow! Apples and oranges! White Supremacists tend towards violence in their beliefs, and they are attacking something someone can't help. It's not like you can choose your race.

But religion is a personal choice.

I agree that name calling isn't appropriate all the time, but there is namecalling on the other side too!

Atheists calling Christians 'mentally ill' aren't being racist, they're just being jerks. It goes both ways; lots of fundamentalist Christians do the same thing. The key word here is, FUNDAMENTALIST. I know lots of cool Christians and we get along just fine, even the few I know who take the Bible literally (some are Jehova's Witnesses).

Don't many White supremacists cite scripture to justify their beliefs?

Hmmm.

I find it strange that the majority of the population feels opressed by a minority.
