I was looking at a 2002 Audi A4 and it said that it was California Emissions Compliant. Does anyone know what that is? And I was also wondering if Audi actually made a diesel A4 in 2002 in America. Thanks!

Yep, the state of California has the strictest requirements on emissions in the country, so If you register a car in that state it has to meet or exceed those standards. For a 2002 vehicle it means very little because cars that new are pretty much all built the same.

However if you were driving a 1982 buick or something, a non-compliant car may have a bit more power, but may be puffing out a lot more pollutates than the same car that is compliant.

It means that the car meets all of California's laws & requirements on the amount of pollution your car emits (lets out).
