No one thinks so as yet, but there are claims that some Eastern practices can do this - any experience of them?

Yes you can, you can slowly decrease the time you sleep gradually.

You can learn to do some deep meditation where eventually, 5 minuts will equate to an hours sleep.

People who sleep 4-5 hours a night BELIEVE that is all that they need. People who sleep 7-9 hours BELIEVE that is how much they need. Can you spot the recurring theme???

Consume less toxins and drink more water, and get Mental rest through mediation or self hypnosis (virtually the same thing). I myself do self-hypnosis for 10 mins a couple of times a day and sleep 4-5 hours a night. I always slept as much as possible until a few years ago, and I mean 10 hours sometimes. If I got less than 8 I would BELIEVE that I needed a nap to "catch up".

I now have more time to do stuff, feel better, feel healthier, and can hear the birds singing in the morning. There is nothign like it!

Good luck

Theres a theory that minimising sleep actually improves your life. Its know as polyphasic sleep and basically it involves breaking your sleep down to four lots of 20 minute power naps every 24 hours. Apparently Leonardo Da Vinci used to sleep like this and it is known as the sleep pattern of geniuses! At first it is hard because you're body isn't used to it but eventually you're body does get used to it. It apparently enriches your life because you simply have more time to do things. Have a look on the net. I'm sure there are plenty of articles.

Simple answer....NO The reason is simple as well....You can keep going for a certain length of time but in the end the body just can't take any more. I worked for more than 48 hours on a dozen occasions but in the end I just could'nt stand up. Surprisingly after the time I only slept about 9 hours...the next night, though, I slept 14 hours. The body always finds a way to recover the spent energy in the end....through sleep or death.

Well, my dad says 'every hour before midnight is worth two after'. It's true. If I go to bed earlier I can get up way early and not be as tired as the other way around.

Each person requires a somewhat different amount of sleep each day. If you try to hard to minimize your sleep you might just turn yourself into a zombie.

i was getting approx 1 and a half hours broken sleep at night and none during the day due to my husband's illness.........i lost 30lb in weight and became absent minded. but i got used to it and now need less sleep.but i wouldn't recommend it because you have to conserve all your energy and nothing gets done.
