With the grain isnt that smooth. Against the grain hurts like a female dog. Both makes the hair grow in uneven patches. Any advice?

Depends on where you're shaving. For your face, with the grain, but for body hair, then against the grain. Or just buy an electric razor and remove the whole debate. :)

Always go with the grain or you will get razor burn. Here is a tip that works for me. I would only do this if you are goind on a date or have some time to do so. Take a very Hot Towel (after a shower prerrably) and soak you face and neck for a few minutes. Then put on the shaving cream and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. All this opens up the pores and gives you a cleaner closer shave. And you get less razor burn. Give it a try.

Where do we get 'shaving' cause hair to grow in uneven patches??? Give me a break. The uneven patches are areas where you didn't get shaved closer to the skin!!

Use a shaving cream, let it moisten the beard for a short period then begin shaving. I use down/angular strokes. Then I finish up rough area by reversing the direction. You might have to 'stretch' the skin to shave hard to get to areas. Under the chin I also finish in the opposite direction.

I've been using a 5-blade razor new from Gillette and love it. It is a bit expensive for blades but I have been experimenting with one blade for over 2.5 months and still get a great shave so that is really reducing the cost per shave.

There is no one right way. The hair follicles on your face actually grow hair in different directions. To get the best shave, I have to go with the grain, against the grain, upwards, downwards, and diagonally, letting each stroke overlap the previous by about 50%.

Okay im a guy and i shave daily and if u dont want tha "five o'clock shadow" first go with the grain and then after you do that go against the grain slowly and gently that way it looks very smooth and doesn't hurt that bad

Go with the grain first, then against afterwards for a closer shave.

The Fab 5 (From Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) always says to go with the grain, but sometimes I feel it gets much closer to go against.

Against for a cleaner shave and use a shaving gel not the cream it will also give you a closer shave. Be careful and good luck.
