I am looking very seriously into getting a yorkie. Does anyone know which dog is better, the yorkie or the yorkie-poo? Also, I know it is difficult to determine, but are most yorkie-poos small (under 15lbs) as full-grown dogs? Also, is the grooming of a yorkie-poo less demanding than that of a yorkie? Any other mix breeds good to consider? Thanks for your suggestions and advice.

FYI, I would never get a dog from a pet store, I would either go to a breeder or rescue a dog from a shelter. I just want info on the differences between the two types of dogs, and a recommendation of which type of SMALL (i live in a one-bedroom apt) dog would be best. Thank you.

Get the yorkie-poo, mixed dogs tend to have less health problems

First of all, a "yorkie-poo" is nothing but an overpriced Mutt. I got mine for $26 at a city shelter... not $600-800. To be positive of temperment, apperance, health, etc. you should ALWAYS get a purebred dog (or spend the money on saving a life.) As for size, same thing, you can't be SURE what size it will be unless it's purebred, even then it's a gamble but is always easier to guess. As for grooming, the groomers at the PetSmart where I live say it depends on the coat. Either way they will need to be combed (NOT brushed) at least 3 times a week, every day if you can. As for the price of grooming... most groomers will price the grooming fee depending on what the dog looks more like. If it looks more like a poodle, you'll pay poodle price, more like a yorkie, you'll pay yorkie price. Also, it's easier for them to tack on "extra designer dog" price increases because there is no standard to go with. Again, a Yorki-Poo is an overpriced Mutt usually they come from backyard breeders who care very little about the animals they produce, some of them running puppy mills. look for a good Yorkie breeder, talk to trainers, vets, owners, various breeders, etc. before you make your decision.

I own two yorkies and they are not domineering. They actually love other people. They are yappers. They were bred to kill vermin so they are very good at sensing people, animals outside. dont know about yorkie-poos but I LOVE yorkies.

first of all I would never be caught dead with a dog with a breed name like yorkie-poo and anyway my grandma has a yorkie and it doesnt like anyone but my grandma, not even my grandpa, unless he is the only one home. they have other dogs but I woud suggest making it your only dog.

neither, both are rat dogs, get something healthy that canprotect you, be a companion, and yet still be soft enough to wrestle with...... Pit Bulls are the most misunderstood dog ever. I have had 5, and the best dog I have ever had. Intelligent, gentle, easily trained and loves people, not a one person dog

Why pay ANYTHING for a MUTT???
You'll NEVER know what to expect from any MONGREL which is,of course, the WHOLE POINT of purebred dogs!
And...NO REPUTABLE breeder would EVER make mutts !
