Dells are quite good....
Toshiba and HP are the next good ones
Sony is very good too, but they're about $1000.
Acer is decent.
IBM also very good, but I don't know if you can get one for under $600 (by the way, they go under the name Lenova for laptops now a days)

A new computer may be worth it in the long run rather than pay for all the broken things from a used lemon!

best buy has a lot of great sales, you should try there, w/ ebay, you're really not sure if it's goin to work til you get it, so i wouldnt do that, i got mine for 685, and they had cheapers ones!
