Sometime next year, I plan on moving to NYC. since I would be off-campus, would my financial aid be able to cover the cost of the apartment while I'm in school?? And could something like a grant cover the cost, or would only a loan work?

Your financial aid can be applied to tution, room and board, fees, and other necessary expenditures. That means that yes, your financial aid can be used to cover off-campus housing.

Whether you will receive enough financial aid to cover it is between you and your school. Make sure to apply early - the sooner you get your application in, the more aid you are likely to receive, since many schools disburse financial aid from limited budgets.

It depends on the loan amount you receive. and the off campus housing amount. Try talking with someone in a bank a nd talk to people that you may know of that live where you wish to be living and ask them how much housing is.
Go in and talk to a Financial Aid consultant at that college or university. for each college and area differs on the amount.

If by "financial aid" you mean things like grants and scholarships, the answer is yes. Your expenses include tuition, room and board, travel, and incidentals. If by it you mean loans from a financial institution, your living expenses would be included as part of the loan as well. To be sure, check with whoever it is who is responsible for your getting a scholarship, grant, or loan.

Good luck!!

You probably wouldn't be able to get financial aid from FAFSA to be put towards your apartment but I believe you put scholarship money towards it since a scholarship just ends up being a check that goes into your checking account.

NYC is quite expensive... but yes, you could use any leftover money from scholarships, loans, grants, etc towards your living expenses.
