Dad3 told our son to drink water from the other side of the glass to cure his hiccoughs. He's still got them but now he's soaking wet as well.

Of course it is imposable for anybody who is not a contortionist to drink from the wrong side of the glass, the point of the exercise is to take the mind off the hiccoughs. With this in mind try a loud bang (blow up and burst a paper bag) or some other kind of shock

My grade 10 biology teacher (many years ago) said that hiccoughs are caused by trapped gas under the diaphragm. He said the trick was to take a deep breath, place your fist on your diaphragm and push in hard while making yourself burp.

I don't know if it really works, but it's not as wet.

Its tricky.

You end up kind of bending right over to achieve the correct angle in which the water pours into your mouth instead of down your front.

I guess the magic is in that bending over. The stomach muscles get busy contracting into a new shape and might just forget what they were hiccoughing about.

Just in case BOOOOO!

Hi the way i cure my hiccups is when i feel it coming up, i swallow, it seems to do the trick for me, the other way is instead of swollowing, take a big drink when you feel the hiccups coming up. If all else fails Hold your breath and count to 10, then drink some water.

Dad3 is talking rubbish! Hiccups occur when the diapraghm muscle goes into spasm - really really deep breaths may help, but not usually.
The only way to cure hiccups is to take the person's mind off them, then they will go on their own.

unfortunately, hiccoughs don't have a cure, no matter how well one method seems to work. They actually subside by themself, and any home-remedy is just distraction until then- in fact, the best way to deal with it is to distract yourself until they go away.

Hee hee thats funny. when i smoked having a cigarette used to get rid of my hiccups. I don't recommend this method. however now that i've stopped when ever i have hiccups i simulate smoking. i.e. slow deep breaths in an slow forceful breaths outthrough my mouth. try using a straw. hiccups are a spasm so you need to try and regain control over the muscles of your diaphragm

No, it's not impssible to do, that's how I cure hiccups! You have to bend over lower than the other side of the glass to drink it that way....it DOES work!!

It does not matter which side of a glass you drink from. If you have hicups, you have hiccups. Participating in false superstitions do not take them away.

Take a deep breath hold it for a minute and at the same time grab hold of both your ear lobes and pull as hard as you can (with out hurting yourself) it works every time!
