No. It is sad to take a good breed and turn it into a freak of nature. They were not meant to be that size. People should stop messing with nature.

There is a difference between a true Miniature Aussie and a "toy" one. The "toy" ones result from purposeful downbreeding and can result in a lot of defects. A true "Miniature" is really just a small standard. Our Aussie - who's WONDERFUL - is the product of a standard male and a "Miniature" female (although she herself was 17 3/4 inches at the withers and weighed 35 pounds - not that "Mini"). Ours is over 19" at the withers and weighs 40 pounds. He's great - the best.

They are cute, but I agree that they are just someone breeding for size only and ruining a good working dog. Aussies were bred to herd cattle, and these little dogs can't do that. Taking away a dog's ability to do their job is an insult to the breed, in my opinion.

Plus, when you breed for size to the exclusion of all other traits, you're begging for health problems.

The Miniature Aussies I've met tend to be snippy and neurotic...not good family pets.

I think that they are not a true breed, just some random person breeding the smallest of the dogs they have. Not sure why anyone would want one, I would be concerned about the health of the animal.
