i don't mean "old ways" as some people put it. I mean a normal 2,000 calories a day with exercise of course. And no weight gain.

You are not supposed to come off it, you are supposed to follow the steps to Maintenance and then do Maintenance for life.

There is NO diet where you will not regain weight if you resume your old ways of eating.

Edited to add: IdiotWind, you are well named

Dr. Atkins died, at the age of 72, as a result of hitting his head on the sidewalk after slipping on the ice while walking to work.

You just need to eat all the good carbs you want and avoid the bad carbs according to Harvard U website and new gov. food pyramid. Dr Atkins had had high blood pressure and had a heart attack. May he rest in peace.

It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way you have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Please do not answer questions if you do not know that you are talking about... Atkins died at 72 from a fall on ice. He was in a coma for 9 days.

Low carb is the way humans evolved to eat over millions of years..... Chew on this... we have only learned to farm wheat, rice and othe grains only about 10,000 years ago. Do you really think the human digistive system evolved to consume all these grain in 10,000 years? Your cat and dog sure didn't, and yet they are getting sick just like us with cancer and other human diseases.. Just take a look at the ingredients in common pet foods. You will see things in there like soy and corn syrup in the first few ingredients. It is looking at us in the face. Humans were meant to eat meat, with all the fat, edible greens and shoots, nuts and fruits in limited quantities.. That is what we grew up on for millions of years. Let us all get a clue.

Highly recommend you get a copy of the book Eat to Live. Sorry mine's packed up as I just moved house, and the author's name escapes me. But it's a pretty current title.

Atkins advised gradual (and sensible) return to the inclusion of carb's.Carb foods with high fiber content and generally good to excellent nutrient content will be better for us than high sugar/low fiber/low vitamin and enzyme values. Eating the entire orange- peeled :) - instead of drinking commercial orange juice means you are taking in more nutrients. Drinking water to hydrate- not sodas or other treat drinks- is healthy hydration. We all want treats. Just keep track over time of what you are ingesting over all, and how (at what rate) you spend the calories. Good luck.
